Make your first stop at Évora, a Unesco World Heritage site and one of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns. Take a guided tour inside the Roman Temple, one of the best preserved Roman structures on the Iberian Peninsula. Your guide will also show you around the must-see Chapel of Bones. Take time to admire the ornate architecture of the Cathedral of Évora. Your second stop will be the graceful medieval village of Monsaraz, one of the oldest in Portugal and built within the walls of a castle. Taste one of the best wines in Portugal with the views of one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe. We had a wonderful trip with Marcus as our guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, and provided lots of information about the culture and history of the locations in Evora and Monsaraz. The Chapel of Bones was a big hit with our 11-year old. We had a great lunch in Evora at a restaurant that Marcus recommended. Overall an engaging day with opportunity to see some new areas in Portugal.

So glad we took this tour to the Alentejo region. Our guide, Marco, was terrific. He was flexible, friendly and informative. He stopped for us first at the "Stonehenge" of the Alentejo, which was most interesting, then we toured Evora with its interesting cathedral. Also had an excellent lunch there. Then on to Monsaraz, which is a beautiful spot high on a hill, all whitewashed buildings, with an amazing 360-degree view. The wine tasting was excellent, and we had time for a little shopping as well. A long but very rewarding day!
