Qué te espera

The Sachsenhausen concentration camp, which was supposed to be a prison for political opponents, has become a place of detention for more than 200 000 people, tens of thousands of whom died of starvation and exhaustion in inhumane conditions.

On the bus trip from Berlin to this dreadful place of terror, you'll find out how Nazi architects designed the grounds and buildings, intending to subjugate prisoners to the absolute power of the SS. You'll discover the thrill of life in the death camp, learn about the daily life of prisoners and hear terrifying stories about those who slowly died of starvation, disease, forced labour, and systematic extermination. During your tour, you'll visit the punishment cells, execution grounds and crematorium, the Pathology Laboratory and Hospital, the gallows and the Jewish barracks.

You'll also learn about the Special Camp No. 7/1, when Sachsenhausen became a Soviet camp. Until its closing in 1950, a further 60,000 men were held captive here, mostly former Nazi functionaries, German POWs, and Soviet deserters. Some 12,000 inmates died of hunger, cold, and disease under the Soviets.

After the tour ends, you’ll be picked up and transported back to Berlin in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus, arriving at the Friedrichstrasse train station meeting point.

It was not worth £55 pp. We had to fund train tickets to get to the start point. We spent no time in any of the exhibitions because of time but it cut the experience short and we felt like we couldnt take it all in properly because we were rushed. We spent more time on the bus than we did in the camp. One part of the exhibition was closed so we couldn't even see half of it. The tour guide was great but if you want more time, go yourself without a tour guide to experience it in deeper level.

Sion, our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. The tour and information provided, sometimes harrowing, was appropriately delivered.
