Riccardo was amazing! He was friendly and helpful. He patiently answered all of my questions, and he spent as long at a given site as I wanted :) But more importantly, he was passionate about what he was doing. It was clear that he wasn't "just another bored tour guide, repeating the same spiel" but rather an extremely well-informed local who was intimately familiar with the site and all of its history and who clearly delighted in sharing it with us. Riccardo actually offered to stay past our two-hour booking time, just to allow us more time to fully enjoy Herculaneum in depth. Unfortunately, we had to leave to catch our train back to Naples. All in all, this was a fabulous experience, and if I visit other archaeological sites, I will definitely look into having an archaeologist as a guide. Highly recommend!
I couldnt go to Pompeii as it is currently shut on Mondays so I bought a ticket to Herculaneum thinking that it would be something at least. Im glad Pompeii was shut as although Herculaneum is smaller, it is enough so you dont get ruined out and has some absolutely stunning houses in a fantastic state of preservation. The colours on the walls and in particular the floor of the female bath hojse are so well preserved it takes you back to the time and lets your imagination run riot
Fantastic tour of Herculaneum with our guide Raffaele who was really knowledgeable and passionate about the site. He really brought it to life and gave us excellent insights into day to day life in the town. Preferred Herculaneum to Pompeii, smaller and better preserved mosaics. The site was easy to navigate and the guides were efficient and easy to find and deal with. Thoroughly recommended.
Very enjoyable stroll through ancient times at our own pace. We went in the late afternoon and there were only a handful of people there. One of the highlights to our family holiday. Definitely worth the time to explore!
This is legit almost better than Pompeii, smaller, less crowds and a very interesting history and story. So many intact beautiful mosaics and houses. Would recommend
