In the heart of London, one of England's most famous churches is not only the location of national events - perhaps most recently, the Royal Wedding - but also the burial ground of some of the country's key historical figures.
England's heritage is rich with Saxon influences. Saebert ruled in the 6th century and is celebrated as one of the first kings to convert from pagan religions to Christianity.
Her reign spanned the Anglo-Spanish war and English settlement in the Americas, but she is also known for ordering the execution of her cousin, Queen Mary of Scotland.
Dickens was the author of A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, and Great Expectations - works which have created cultural ripples in TV and film.
Sir Newton, who studied at Cambridge, is famous for discovering gravity when an apple fell on his head from a tree.
The father of the notorious Henry VIII has his very own chapel area and is buried next to his wife. Their tomb is luxurious, gold, and in Renaissance style to reflect their wealth.
Photography is not permitted in the church area, only in the cloisters. There will be clear guidance as to where these areas are - if in doubt, ask someone who works there.
Even if they are not physically buried at the Abbey, there are many memorial stones to famous influencers - among them the Bronte sisters, Martin Luther King, Jr., and William Shakespeare.
As it is a church, visitors are asked to take care in how they dress when visiting Westminster Abbey - no hats and knees and shoulders covered.
Large luggage items can't be brought inside the building - it is recommended that you check them into the secure storage facilities at one of London's major rail stations.
Really enjoyed our trip to London and our package we purchased. We wanted to do the London Eye and hop on hop off bus - the river cruise was an additional extra thrown in and ended up being the highlight. We ended up walking most of the way around the city, only using the bus twice - both times to go just one stop. Magnificent views from the London Eye - but the cruise was just wonderful. We went from Tower Bridge to Westminster. The guy speaking was really funny and the facts super interesting. The baileys hot chocolate on board also delicious. Would absolutely recommend.
Me and my partner did this tour in October 2020. We were the only 2 people on this tour. This was a shame to the tour guide as he deserved a bigger audience but good for us to have such a personnel tour. The tour provided a good insight into the subject matter of palace history and in the latter part of parliament history. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who has an interest in this subject.
Good day fellow Globetrotters, I would like to give commendation to London tour and to our guide Chris. The tour guide (Chris) is well knowledgeable about the place and its history. He is also very caring for its clients during the tour. By and large, the rating I could give is 5 out 5. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Patrick
Had a great time - our guide Chris was really good and although we have lived in London over 60 years we still learnt some great things about Palaces and Parliament
