Full description
If you want to pack in 2 amazing tourist destinations in just 1 day, then come on the Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery tour. These 2 areas show so much about American history and this experience is bound to be a day to remember for you.

The highlight of the day is a visit to the historic Mount Vernon, Virginia, the home of George and Martha Washington, located on the banks of the Potomac River about 45 minutes outside of Washington DC. This historic estate includes not only the Mount Vernon Mansion - George and Martha Washington's home - but also a host of colonial era buildings, beautiful gardens, a working distillery and gristmill, and a museum. Experience life in Washington’s time on this tour and find out how he came to be the first president of the United States of America. This portion of the tour is dedicated to George Washington and the times in which he lived.

The other highlight of the day is a visit to the Arlington National Cemetery. This is the more somber part of the tour, as we partner with the Arlington National Cemetery Tram and its guides to provide you with a look at the various memorials located throughout the cemetery. Servicemen and women are still buried here daily, so the officials ask that tourists be respectful.

The cemetery is the home of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and visitors are permitted to view the Changing of the Guard, a solemn ceremony. Your tram will stop at several locations within the cemetery, and your time should permit you to get off once or twice.

If you’re interested in iconic locations in American history, then this tour will be ideal for you. Our talented driver guides will make every moment of the day great. It has a brilliant mixture of structure and freedom, as you can visit some sights alone and others with the group.

The motor coach departs from Union Station at 08:00 and heads directly to Arlington National Cemetery:

1) Arlington National Cemetery (08:30 - 10:30)

2) Mount Vernon (11:30 - 15:00) - Time is provided to enjoy lunch on your own at Mount Vernon.

Arlington National Cemetery's tram has 6 stops on weekdays and 9 on weekends. We advise only getting off at the Kennedy Gravesite stop and Memorial Amphitheatre stop (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Changing of the Guard) to allow you to return to the motor coach in time for the 10:30 departure.

Tram stops at Arlington National Cemetery:

1) Welcome Center
2) Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) - there is a 5-10 minute walk to the memorial from the tram stop
3) President John F. Kennedy Gravesite
4) U.S. Coast Guard Memorial
5) General Pershing Gravesite
6) Memorial Amphitheatre and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
7) Arlington House (AKA Robert E. Lee House)

On the weekends, the following stops are added:

• Sections 54 and 55
• Columbarium and Niche Wall
• Section 60 and 9/11 Memorial

For the ultimate sightseeing experience, upgrade your tour of Mt. Vernon and Arlington to include a 1-day ticket on a hop-on hop-off double-decker bus tour of Washington D.C.

We really enjoyed Mt. Vernon and the “extra” stops that Wayne made. Christ Church was amazing and the additional Alexandria spots were very interrupted. Wayne obviously is passionate about the history of Alexandria and DC area! His personal comments about 9/11 actually brought tears to my eyes! I will never forget how that day made me feel! Arlington National Cemetery is always humbling! Such a beautiful place with a history so stronge, tragic and touching. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unlnown Soldier is always humbling! These mem and woman are so dedicated! It was 95 degrees when we were there! The guards carry on regardless of the weather!

Amazing by poignant

Really good trip. Would have been 5 star however balance of your wrong. Really rushed at Arlington with only two hours. Then approx 4 hours at Mount Vernon, which was far too long. Should be 3 and 3. God knows what I'd have done if been raining at Mt Vernon.
