Arriving at the ice dome, we were greeted by a friendly guide who showed us around the dome/hotel and the hotel rooms. The tour started with a short film depicting how the dome hotel was created from scatch. We were then taken to the ice bar, where we were treated to an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink in ice shot glasses. Throughout the dome/hotel there are wonderful ice sculptures both small and large. The hotel bedrooms are unique and worth visiting. There is a separate building where you can have lunch, soup and a drink. It is a unique experience and well worth visiting.
One of the best tours I have ever done, we saw the most amazing Northern Light show. Our two guides, George and Sokratis made sure that we had the best views of the Northern Lights whilst sitting round an open fire at midnight eating hotdogs! Even getting stuck in a snowdrift and spending an hour digging the vans out only added to this great trip- highly recommended.
This was such a great trip. We saw the northern lights just as we passed the tunnels outside Tromso! We stopped to look and take some photos and then continued our safari... We saw many that night and the feeling was amazing, to see that miraculous sights and lights dancing and changing colour. Our guide Peter knew exactly where to go, he was great at explaining all the factors that influence occurrence of the Lights. Our driver Dragan did a great job driving us safely through frozen landscapes and offering us hot drinks. He later made a camp fire and prepared some hot dogs to enjoy under gorgeous Northern Lights which we saw four times that night. Warm suits helped keep us warm!
Our driver and guide for the evening were the best. If you want the best experience look no further. Its not always possible to see the Aurora but our driver did the best he could to ensure that we did - and they were fabulous. It meant a 200 mile round trip in a fairly uncomfortable minibus - but well worth it.
This trip was a last minute addition to our itinerary and yet it ended up being one of our highlights. Cristina and Helinka were so lovely. So full of life, fun, knowledge and passion about their environment. The sun rise and sun set skies were incredible. 8 sea eagles in the sky at one time. Lots of birding, which was great. And easily the BEST fish soup we have ever tasted...and we eat a lot of it! Thank you for a wonderful experience and a brilliant day girls xxx
