Full description
This full-day tour is a combination of the Classic Rome Tour and the Imperial Rome Tour, and includes visits to all of the important sites in the Eternal City.

In the morning the tour begins at Piazza della Repubblica. Your local guide will take you on a pleasant stroll through the historical center, where you can admire the Trevi Fountain, Bernini’s Palazzo di Montecitorio, Piazza Navona, and other sites.

The bus stops adjacent to Vatican City so that you can admire St. Peter's Square while listening to your guide’s commentary on the Basilica. You’ll then have the chance to explore this magnificent church on your own and admire masterpieces such as Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini's bronze canopy before re-boarding the bus.

You’ll stop at a local restaurant where you’ll enjoy a typical Italian lunch and a break before you head off with your guide for the afternoon tour.

This part of the tour begins at Piazza Venezia and continues on to the Michelangelo-designed Piazza del Campidoglio. From here there are terrific views of the Roman Forum. You’ll then visit the Colosseum and tour the interior. This is the largest arena constructed in the Roman Empire.

You’ll travel to the Circus Maximus by coach to see the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, before finally arriving at the Basilica San Pietro in Vincoli, where you’ll see the famous Moses statue by Michelangelo.

Covered the key attractions.

The tours were mostly walking which didn't justify the price. For the classical tour all through the tour the guide appeared time poor. For example we had "7 minutes" to experience Fontana di Trevi. Highlighting how important time was to the tour it was threatened that we'd be left behind if we weren't at the meeting point after the 7 minutes. With the justification that we had a packed agenda the timetable felt reasonable but this turned out not to be the case. It was a hectic pace up until we reached the final location, the Vatican. The Vatican is one of the most artefact dense areas on the tour. It is a location where having a tour guide would be most valuable. Except after sticking to our strict timetable and loosing 25% of the group along the way we were left to our own devices for an hour (1/3 of the tour) with no guide. It didn't make any sense why we were so rushed through the first 2/3rds of the tour only to guide ourselves for the final 1/3 rd.

Informative but stressful

The guides were competent and very nice, and we saw and heard about lots of different things, but because only the two of us spoke German, the tour was all in English, even though we booked a German one. So, of course, it was stressful just trying to follow everything.

The guided tour was really interesting for a newcomer to Rome.

Our tour took place in Spanish and German, of which the tour guide's Spanish was considerably better. You had to listen very carefully to understand him. But overall it was a really fun day.
