Full description
Meet your guide at the historic marker for one of the most notorious prisons of the Civil War, Libby Prison, to hear about the site and how Richmond came to be the Capitol of the Confederacy. As the tour moves on through Shockoe Bottom, you will also see the sites where Castle Thunder Prison once stood, the site of Lumpkin's Slave Jail, and several of the buildings that played host to Civil War hospitals. At each site you will hear how these buildings were used, and the stories of some of the fascinating people who found themselves in Richmond among the hospitals and prisons during the Civil War.

Your tour concludes back at the Libby Prison site where your guide will be happy to answer any lingering questions that you might have, or to provide recommendations for other places to see and things to do in Richmond.
