What people are saying about Qumran
Great Jeep safari, but crowded death sea and AHAVA shop not needed
We loved the tour & ride with Ali. We highly recommend to do this safari tour. We were 6 people in one jeep, Ali is a very good driver. We had cold water for free and we get fresh watermelon for break. Ali was a great guide funny and nice he has a lot of expierience as he lives in the desert. The ride was 4 hours where he explained us the nature, animals and the plants. He gives us an idea how Nomad people live and lived in the desert and how they made it to survive. Which plant can be eaten, which one used as soap. How to find water, where to sleep. How to read tracks in the sand. We saw dromedas, ibex, birds and a yellow scorpion. The nature and beeing in the middle of the desert surrounded with nothing then sand and the view at the Dead Sea in over 300m was amazing Contra: The dead sea afterwards. Huge bus group, the "Kalia Beach" super crowded touristic spot. Not nice. Would recommened to split this tour to just do the safari OR even better add a desert sleepover under the stars
Be prepared for a long day, take water, sunscreen and flip flops that can go in the water and the shower. Wear an outfit easy to change in and out of bathers and comfortable shoes as the change facilities at the Dead Sea are crowded and filthy. You cannot walk on the beach with bare feet, it is like stepping into a frying pan. The guide was excellent, the Masada experience was very interesting, just don't expect much for lunch for the price. The pick up is for multiple tours which took about 25 minutes before all buses meet at a central location. The whole day was well organised, however an hour and 40 minutes at the Dead Sea really was not enough time,an extra hour would be perfect. Our guide paced the information nicely, answered all questions and had a great sense of humour. Well worth doing, just go prepared
We first did the Desert Safari and it was awesome. The guide picked us up in a Land Rover and we begin our journey immediately. Stopped at three spots along the trail, each having a spectacular view. The second was the Dead Sea, and it was cold, windy, rainy, and the waves were very choppy. We were told the beach was closed but some people went in anyway. There was a camel there at the beach and we were able to at least get a camel ride - bonus!
Tour plan and tour guides were excellent. Overall enjoyed a lot. Only complaint is that the “larger” tour travels in a very confortable bus, whereas the “small-tour” goes on a uncomfortable and tight van. So, overall, can’t really say the small tour was any better than the cheaper regular “large group” tour. As for the tour was totally worth it.
The small group tour with Norbert our guide was excellent
We had an excellent day with Norbert our tour guide who was informative, knowledgeable, and very passionate about Jerusalem and its history. It is worth paying the additional cost for the small group tour as it is more personal.
