Top sights in Vienna
In the heart of Vienna's gorgeous Prater park lies the famous amusement park known as the Wurstelprater. The Wurstelprater first opened its doors in 1766 and today hosts an unusual mix of classic and brand new rides, offering an exciting day out for all ages.
Built in 1897, the Wiener Riesenrad is one of Vienna's favorite tourist attractions. Famous from films like The Third Man and Before Sunrise, it grants stunning views of the city.
For a panorama that trumps that of the ferris wheel, plus an injection of adrenaline, climb aboard the 117-meter-tall Praterturm, the highest flying swing in the world.
A classic of old-style theme parks, the magic rotor spins at a speed of 30 rotations per minute, gluing its passengers to the wall through pure centrifugal force.
Those who dare should make sure to ride Volare, a roller coaster that propels passengers through the air head first, simulating the feeling of flight over a distance of 420 meters.
If Volare wasn't enough for you, then head over to the Ejection Seat and get catapulted towards the sky at a mind-blowing speed of 14 meters per second.
If you happen to be visiting the Prater in winter, make sure to check out the famous traditional Christmas market, which takes place every year from mid-November until the beginning of January in front of the giant ferris wheel.
Note that there is no admission fee for the amusement park and that tickets must be bought for each individual ride, which is great for parents that want to indulge their kids, as the park is a very pleasant hang-out spot even for those not seeking thrills.
- When should I visit?
- Open 24 hours a day year round. Individual attractions have different opening hours.

- How to get there
- Take the U1 or U2 to Praterstern or the U2 to Messe-Prater.
- Additional information
- Check out the Pratercard if you're looking for a cashless way to pay at Prater.
What people are saying about Prater
Loved this tour. Bikes were very good quality, comfortable, strong snd so easy to maneuver. We went to places we would not have seen on a typical tourist ride. Good english commentary with time to take some great pics at choice locations. Would recommend to others. The option of an ebike for my husband (sore foot) was excellent although he hardly needed it as the route is largely flat ground. The afternoon option caught the shade which was appreciated in the 32C heat.
Only 1 critique-at least one more chocolate pouring machine to accommodate big groups, otherwise instructors were clear and helpful, good times! A special thank you and mention to Lila at the shop section -great related convo!
Wonderful to experience the city per bike, being able to stop and look at the sights. So safe and convenient to ride in the bicycle lanes. Our guide was so knowledgeable!
We enjoyed the Hop on, Hop off buses in Vienna. We used both the red and the blue line. The commentary was clear and gave a good overall view of the history of Vienna.
an unrushed personal tour with a pleasant and commutative guide it would benefit from a leaflet to remind you were you'd been and at the time were you were going
