5 historic sights you must see on a Prague boat tour

Vltava river cruises often sell themselves on views of the spectacular Prague Castle, and who can blame them? But is the hilltop landmark really best seen from a boat? Here are five sights that are!

Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge

As the River Vltava's only crossing until 1841, this 15th-century, gothic pedestrian bridge was crucial for connecting the castle and Old Town for much of the Prague's history.

National Theater

National Theater

The National Theater, home of Czech opera and performing arts has been running since 1881. Can't get tickets for a show? Compare night boat tours to see its stunning exterior illuminated instead!

Rudolfinum

Rudolfinum

Even in a city as handsome as this, the magnificence of this auditorium and art gallery is dwarfed only by Prague Castle. It's home to one of the oldest concert halls in Europe.

Čertovka

Čertovka

The "Devil's Stream" was dug to power medieval watermills still visible today. You'll also see the sights of Kampa Island, including Liechtenstein Palace.

Dancing House

Dancing House

Designed by Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry to symbolize Czechoslavikia's transition to democracy, the Gaudí-esque Dancing House stands out amid Prague's Baroque and Gothic cityscape.

Planning Your Visit

How much does it cost?

Prices for sightseeing boat tours of Prague's Vltava river begin at €8 for a basic, one-hour sightseeing package, but can cost upwards of €50 for a better quality tour complete with meals and – as is quite popular on Vltava river cruises – live music.

What about dinner?

The banks of the Vltava look splendid lit up by night, so why not book an evening's dinner cruise? Unless you're after something fancy, prices for these (often with a buffet) are very affordable. There are also lunch cruises available if those better suit your itinerary.

What people are saying about Prague

THIS CRUISE WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST ONE OF ALL !!!!!! WOW WOW WOW

We chose glass boat with window seat and it was so amazingly beautiful!! Luxury feeling and top notch!! The buffet was delicious!!! Our children loved it!! so lovely to relax for the 3 hours... Music didn't really play on the top deck but the view made up for that and you could hear the music from the buffet level. We were shown on the boat, given a little welcome drink and shown to our lovely table. It was all you could eat buffet. Also, the stopping that some user have complained about was the boat must wait in line to go through the River Lock (or canal lock) to go upriver. Not a big deal... The 3 hour journey was a very large, fabulous loop!! We took a ridiculous amount of photos :) !!! So happy we picked the right cruise!!!!! GET THERE 25 MINUTES BEFORE AND BOARD EARLY- gives you time to get your ticket and find the correct DOCK to depart from. The meeting point directions take you to the steps that lead down to the docks. Pay attention and arrive 25 mins before.

Lovely sights but mob like pushing to get on boat.

Loved seeing the sights via the water but the pushing to get onboard was outrageous. It was total carnage with everyone clambering past each other to get to the top deck and too many people saving seats. Once inside (we sat lower deck), we had a lovely time seeing the views and drinking wine. I think they need to consider some kind of queuing system, though!

A beautiful boat, a lovely ride, and very good food.

The service was fine, the music very enjoyable, and the trip was lovely. A few observations: you might consider bringing sunscreen as some sides of the vessel are exposed to the afternoon sun for about an hour and a half. We did enjoy two 750ml bottles of water with our prepaid meal, which beverage did cost 240czk.

A cruise dinner that made a difference to our visit to Prague

Everything was great except for a rude reception staff/hostess which I do not wish to elaborate on as a respect to the efforts of the rest of the team. So beside the poor welcome and initial seating, everything was above expectations. The food quality, drinks, music, service etc... highly recommended.

Enjoyed the boat cruise very comfortable and good service from the bar

There was plenty of food but some of it not good quality. We were not told when we could go dues from the top deck and get the food .it was only when other people started coming up that we realised food was being served .there was an announcement before we set off but it wasn't very clear .
