Top sights in Barcelona
The Poble Espanyol is a one-of-a-kind museum on Barcelona's famed Montjuic hill: made up of 117 buildings, the "museum" is actually a full-sized Iberian village. Filled with great spots to indulge in the local gastronomy, here are our recommendations!
Hidden away, this gem of a restaurant is absolutely worth seeking out. Tapes Tapas is one of those rare spots where you can enjoy exquisite tapas without breaking the bank.
The famous El Tablao de Carmen hosts some of the most amazing flamenco shows in Barcelona. Insider's tip: book a table downstairs, you'll have a much better view of the dancers!
Looking for a no-frills yet delicious traditional meal at a reasonable price? Then La Font de Prades is the place for you. The charming outside area is ideal for balmy evenings.
At the top of the village, there's a large and beautiful picnic area, offering an idyllic spot for families to enjoy an open-air meal in the shade of the pine trees.
Picnics are allowed throughout the village, so you can also enjoy a snack in one of the many picturesque squares, such as the large Plaza Mayor or the quaint Plaza de la Fuente.
Though a visit to the Poble Espanyol is delightful on any sunny day, it's especially worth it during the summer months thanks to the many outdoor concerts and events. The outdoor cinema is also open in the summer – the perfect cap to a day of walking and discovery.
Make sure to check out the 40 or so artisans throughout the village, many of whom will exhibit their craft for your enjoyment. The glass blower is particularly popular.

What people are saying about Poble Espanyol
Excellent value. Overall really excellent. You can hop on and hop off which is great, so you can get to pack loads in. However you will need to start early to make the most of this. I did find a few staff members to be unfriendly however, especially on one bus where she kept everyone waiting and before we could get to seats with young children the bus drove off and one of my children fell. Otherwise is was excellent value for money. Also we did get off at the Marina and it took ages before a bus with enough seats arrived for us to start our journey again. But overall excellent value for money and stops at all of the main points.
Would certainly recommend a visit to Montjuïc. Lovely ride to the top and then fantastic views from the castle. The grounds are beautiful and very well looked after. Booking on line was easy but there is no separate entrance for online bookings. The castle is very interesting and you can spend as long as you like just wandering around. Plenty of shade, except on top of the castle, and a cafe inside the castle and a place to buy drinks and ice creams in the grounds outside. A very good day.
Excellent value. Make sure you start early as there is so much to see. You can hop on and hop off which is excellent too. Some of the staff though were a little unfriendly. Also if you get off at the Marina and are in a large group then expect a long wait for a bus after as they are all full.
Perfect way of getting to see Barcelona. Commentary educational. A great way to see Barcelona in such a short time. So relaxing also. Staff were so helpful and kept us updated about the protests when required.
Easy on-line purchase, and then just wave your phone at the barrier. You could walk up to the top of the hill, but the views from the cable car are better and your legs will thank you.
