What people are saying about Our Lady Queen of Poland Church
We had booked the tour with fiat126 and the cars and guide arrived on time. In Nowa Huta we saw the Aleja Roza, the steelworks entrance with a guided tour in the adm.building including the shelters in the cellar. We ended up by Nowa Hutas church. Our guide told us about both the establishment of the city and the planning behind it, and did a very good job connecting its establishment in the 1950ies with what happened in the 1980ies with Solidarity, Pope John Paul II and the building of the church. Being a native of Nowa Huta, he obviously felt proud of his city and was enthusiastically engaged in telling its story. Highly recommended!
Ride around in a communist era car to see a time warp - the mostly abandoned showpiece headquarters of the new Lenin Steelworks. Our guide Mathew was very informative and nice and told us all the tidbits of life in his grandparents’ day. If you are interested in something different, this is a good tour for getting a feeling for life under the soviets.
I have to admit that we were very lucky, because we had a kind of private tour. It was just us and Matheuz and he knows everything about Nowa Huta. I was also impressed by the way the foundation tries to revive the old building and make them available to the public. Hats off!
Matteusz was a great guide, looked after us very well. Fun to be driven in his 1969 Polish Fiat. He is a local, born and still living in Nowa Huta. His family's story is the story of the city and the steelworks. A fascinating afternoon, including the underground bunker.
Very nice tour. There are no groups so the tour is very personal. We were the only tourists in the neighborhood. The guide is very well informed and knows where he’s talking about.
