What people are saying about Oetztal
Was picked up from hotel by minibus and taken to another meeting point where transferred to a coach... which took us to the final departure point, where most people had to transfer to yet another coach! The drive was quite interesting. There was just about enough time at the convent. At the monastery we had to stay as a group, which meant I couldn't shoot off to take a photo opportunity I'd noticed as we drove up to the monastery. An interesting place. No time was allowed for the souvenir shop there, despite the fact it looked the most interesting of the three places visited. There was time at the gypsum mine to have something to eat at the cafe. The walk into the mine took quite a long time, but it was fairly interesting. But the highlight was the boat trip on the underwater lake. The guide for that part was good. Our main tour guide was also good and spoke the three languages with ease. We saw Lichtenstein Castle from road on the way back. The amount of information was about right.
I booked this tour because I wanted to go to Mayerling. Misty, moody day just added to the atmosphere of revisiting the steps of the tragedy which took place here. The trip to the Monastery afterwards was wonderful - never seen such amazing stained glass in the whole of Europe, ending with a change of pace again as we delved into the caves of the disused gypsum mines and the underground Excellent tour and excellent guide - thank you.
The tour was great, especially as hotel pick-up was included in the price. Just the right amount of time spent at Mayerling, the monastery and underground lake. Vienna woods is only a 30 minute drive from Vienna so no long bus trip. Excellent guide spoke English, French, German and Spanish and very knowledgable with lots of history and information.
Except for knowing exactly where to meet, the tour was excellent. Loved the Second monastery. Changed itinerary because of weather, and still was excellent. Would recommend.
An unusual visit that ended with the ride on the underwater lake. A very good & organized trip that should not be missed when in Vienna
