Full description
As you enter the iron gates of Houmas House Plantation & Gardens, you can instantly see why it was called the “Crown Jewel of Louisiana's River Road” and why it was voted Best Historic Mansion by "USA Today." The striking Greek Revival mansion is softened by a 38-acre panorama of native Louisiana plant life and stunning waterscapes. Pathways wind around the property, through courtyards and around ponds.

On the 1-hour mansion tour, friendly tour guides in period attire will lead you through every room on the first and second floor of the mansion. There are no velvet ropes or off-limits areas. You’ll learn how a succession of owners, the sugar cane business, and the Mississippi River shaped the mansion's fascinating history. There are interesting stories behind much of the original art and rare collectibles, and the guides love to share those tales with guests.

You'll also have the opportunity to enjoy a drink or meal at your own cost. The Turtle Bar, located in the 1836 boys’ room, serves as a quaint bar offering 250 bottles of whiskey, rare bourbons, local beers, and Southern favorites such as Mint Juleps. Around the corner is Café Burnside, located in a pavilion built with brick from remnants of an 1883 cotton warehouse owned by the Princess of Monaco. Here you can purchase a Creole buffet lunch or dine a la carte.
