Full description
Learn about New Orleans history with a 1-hour guided tour of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Meet your guide at the Rampart Treehouse, a pizzeria/bar near the cemetery. Enter the cemetery and learn about its history from your knowledgable guide. Founded in 1789, the St. Louis Cemetery is notable for being the resting place of the many early Creoles, as well as well-known New Orleans residents.

Visit the tomb of the famous voodoo priestess Marie Laveau. See the tomb of Homer Plessy, the plaintiff in the historic supreme court case Plessy v. Ferguson. In 1892, Plessy, a Haitian refugee, rode a train car that was for whites only. A supreme court trial ensued, and the verdict created the doctrine of “separate but equal,” which plagued the country for decades to come.

See the resting place of famous New Orleanians such as Etienne de Boré, the first mayor of New Orleans, Paul Morphy, one of the first chess champions, and Barthelemy Lafon, an architect who allegedly became a pirate. Visit the pyramid-shaped tomb where actor Nicholas Cage will be entombed.
