Full description
The New Orleans Garden District is a beautiful and ornate neighborhood with gorgeous, historic houses and mansions dating back to the antebellum days of the Old South.

This historic neighborhood is comprised of the world’s largest collection of 19th-century southern-style mansions, some of which are still known by the names of families that built them. This whole area was once a number of plantations, eventually sold off in parcels. Originally the Garden District was developed with only a couple of houses per block, each surrounded by a large garden, giving the district its name.

Bring your camera! This two hour walking tour is best enjoyed on foot in order to fully enjoy the exquisite examples of quintessential New Orleans architecture: white columns, scroll work of a cast iron fence, or a romantic Romeo and Juliet style gallery. You'll also visit Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a historic 19th-century cemetery with above-ground tombs & statuary characteristic of the area.

Best if you're into architecture.

My tour guide was knowledgeable with his subject matter, but I feel like he was somewhat hampered in the fact that cemetery Lafayette #1 is currently closed to the public. It felt like that was probably normally a large part of the tour and, lacking it, he had to fluff a bit by pointing out random facts about architecture and trees(!) for most of the trip. Still, he kept it moving and ended up giving us an extra half hour as he showed off celebrity homes.

We would definitely suggest taking the tour, especially with DJ being your tour guide! He was very knowledgeable of the area, that we toured through. Being a very hot day, DJ was accommodating to everybody's needs. To ensure everybody was safe and well hydrated! Would take the tour again, when we come back to New Orleans!

Very informative and personal! Led by a very knowledgeable local.

Lots of great information! I know tours are available by walking yourself but it's much more engaging to have someone explain and tell you details and be able to ask questions in the moment. We did walk through the cemetery and then the houses in the garden district and there was a small break in the middle which also displayed the neighborhood charm.
