What people are saying about Munich

Excellent musical performance in perfect setting!

The musicians we saw were excellent. I understand that the program varies, and the musicians vary. Ours were of the highest quality - 2 violins & 1 bass. One of the violinists was a virtuoso & performed several of his pieces without reading music. The setting, in a small chapel in The Residenz Palace, was exquisite. Mozart had performed there, not surprisingly. You do sit on hard wooden pews, so that is the only drawback. They ask you to arrive at 6, and the concert is at 6:30, so you have a bit to wait after being seated. The entrance can be hard to find - it is one of the doors to the Residenz which has Lions at the doorway, which helps to identify it. They also give the street & surrounding shops for reference points. Many attendees dressed nicely. We only saw the show as we did not need to have the dinner, which we understand is at a nearby restaurant.

A memorial to the dead, a warning to the living.

Our guide, Tom, earned 5 stars. He was extremely knowledgeable & articulate. He presented us with lots of history & fleshed out the narrative with details. He guided us around the site for 4 hours. The tour company, however, earned only 3 stars. The company relies on public transportation to get the group to the camp. First a train to the town of Dachau, then a bus to the camp. Unfortunately on this day the buses stopped arriving at the camp just when hundreds of visitors were ready to leave. The tour guides had only one way to get their groups back to the train station. On foot! It's a 45 min. walk to the station, which severely challenged some of the older group members. At the very least a description of the transportation & the amount of walking the tour requires should be included in the tour description.

Wonderful music and quite disappointing dinner.

The concert was great, loved it, but the dinner was a serious disappointment, especially given the price (approximately $98.00 per person). We thought we were eating as a group, but no, it was basically just a dinner reservation to Zum Franciskaner where we were not shown a menu but were automatically served an entree of sauerkraut, potato dumplings, boiled pork and beer. It looked much like the advertised dinner special that cost approximately €16. Do not book the dinner unless you like the food listed above for that price.

Excellent tour experience--informative and thought provoking

Our tour experience was wonderful. Our guide, Lisa, did a great job leading us through the concentration camp in a way both educational and respectful. She provided excellent insight, had a wealth of information to share, and made sure all participants had a positive tour. Our group agreed using the tour program was a good choice--it saved us from figuring out transportation details and offered more information that a self guided tour would have.

Knowledgeable & respectful of sensitive subject.

Our tour guide, Tom, has a passion for history. His tour was extremely informative. He added a special bit of his sarcastic English humor to help lighten the mood. Dachau is a difficult tour to take, but a part of our history. The respect he exhibited for this memorial was outstanding & he also suggested that we all keep in mind that these are hallowed grounds. I would recommend this tour.
