A very informative tour, as a history teacher I enjoyed this very much. Dresden's sights are very spread out in some cases so this really allows you to cover a lot of ground and then be selective about what you want to know more about. This can be your travel throughout the city and you see some of the nice scenery while travelling. There are also walking tours that you can get with the 2 day ticket, we had an English speaker and because me and my partner were the only English speakers we got a personal tour. Not all of the bus routes offer English commentary but the main one does. There seems to be more information for the German commentary which made me feel like I was getting a bit less and that is why I have it 4 rather than 5 stars. Very good value for money!
We stayed on the bus for the full tour and it was a great way to see the city in limited time. We were only in Dresden for one night. We took the walking tour of the Zwinger, Procession of Princes and the Church of our Lady. Our guide was very nice and helpful. She went into overtime! We were a bit worried that the tour would be only in German but they had an English speaking guide which was great as my German is not up to scratch! Dresden is a beautiful city and walking around looking at the old buildings is wonderful. However it takes it to another level when you actually know what the buildings are and their history!
We did the walking tour in English with Grit. I've lived in Europe for the last 4 years and have done dozens of tours. Our tour with Grit was the best, no question. She was very open with her background growing up in Eastern Germany as well as very knowledgeable about everything we looked at. There was not a single thing I asked about that she didn't have a very well-researched answer for. She's so passionate at her job- she ended up spending an extra hour with us so that she could explain things more deeply. I'm not easily impressed but her commitment and depth of knowledge blew me away!
Dresden has so many fascinating places and so much history it can be overwhelming to know where to start. The hop on hop off bus goes around to 22 important sites and explains a bit about each in about 1 1/2 hours and then you can decide where you want to go and get off the bus when you want and then back on to go to another place. We enjoyed the tour. Dresden really needs a week to do it right. We will be back.
One of the better hop on hop off tours that I've done in Germany. The hours were great and the option to start after 5pm and still be able to use the oil lowing day was a great idea too. The major issue was that the. German commentary was very load over the speakers and the English commentary kept on dropping out.
