Full description
This 3-hour tour will introduce you to the 100 square mile island of Martha's Vineyard by chronicling the history of 6 unique towns. As you drive across the picturesque island, your guide will breath life into centuries of sights. You’ll start in Oak Bluffs, known for its distinctive Victorian architecture, including 300 technicolor cottages designed to look like gingerbread houses. Right around the corner stands The Flying Horse Carousel, America’s oldest, which has been operating since 1876.

From there, you’ll head to Edgartown, with its quaint harbor and storybook setting — complete with an 80-year-old lighthouse. A former hub for the whaling industry, you’ll see the stately greek revival mansions built by ship captains and carefully maintained to this day. Heading up the island, you’ll pass by idyllic countryside and small fishing villages before stopping for some clam chowder or lobster bisque in Menemsha.

You’ll stop again at the technicolor cliffs of Aquinnah, proof of the island’s stunning natural diversity, before swinging by the bridge made famous in the movie Jaws. All the while, your guide, a colorful Martha’s Vineyard native, will recount tales both informative and humorous, granting an excellent introduction to this wonderful island.

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting bits of historical information about the various towns, including where famous people have lived or are currently live on Martha’s Vineyard. It was a great way to see the entire island and learn about the island’s history. As a first-time visitor, this tour was invaluable and I highly recommend it.

Our tour guide, Kevin was a very community involved , articulate, historically well versed tour guide, who has lived on Martha’s Vineyard for over 30 years. There were only 5 people on our group, so he was able to give us personal attention, and answer all of our questions. A wonderful 3 hour tour.
