Tours of Marrakech's picturesque desert vary in length from a single afternoon to an adventurous five days. To help you pick the right option, here are some of the best things to do on each.
Enjoy a camel tour through Marrakech's rural palm groves, race over the dunes on a quad bike, or even do both! Either way, be sure to stop for tea at a traditional Berber village.
Take in the scenic delights en route to Zagora - among them Aït Benhaddou, an ancient city that has been the backdrop to Hollywood movies from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Gladiator."
Trek out to the Sahara's famous windswept dunes at Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga, spotting wildlife by day and camping Bedouin-style beneath the stars at night.
From Aït Benhaddou, detour through Ouarzazate – "Door of the Desert" – and continue over the Atlas Mountains through the historic village of Tamgrout and Irqui National Park.
Take in all of the above and throw in hikes along the breathtaking Todgha and Dadès Gorges, as well as smaller pleasures like flamingo-watching and traditional music shows!
Marrakech desert tours and safaris start at around €50 for an afternoon, with prices reaching closer to €1,000 for all-inclusive day trips lasting four to five days. Discount deals can be found if you book online, but be sure to compare comfort factors like transportation, accommodation, and food, especially for longer tours.
Marrakech swelters through hot and humid summers that can reach upwards of 104°F. However, despite the desert landscape, it experiences seasonal rains through its damp and mild winters.

Absolutely fantastic trip, worth every penny. Our driver Abdul picked us up from our hotel and we headed on towards the Atlas Mountains. Along the way there were plenty of picture opportunities with Abdul answering any questions and giving us some insight into the history of the Berber towns. The Berber breakfast was lovely and the Argan oil tour very informative with opportunity to purchase lovely gifts. When we got to the Atlas Mountains, Rachid Jellah took over, he was a fantastic guide. Very informative and ensured we went at a pace to accommodate everyone in the group. Lots of beautiful views along the way from the cherry blossom to the waterfall. The Berber lunch was tasty and hearty, and we had the added bonus of enjoying it with a clear view of the Atlas Mountains. The day was topped off with a camel ride, quite an experience if you’ve never done it before. Would definitely recommend this trip.
This day was one of the best I’ve experienced in life. I cannot express how much fun I had and how kind and professional the tour guides were. This was there first booking since lockdown and I was worried about it all, especially being a solo traveler- but the tour guides were so professional and pretty much did everything I asked, picked me up on time, opened doors for me, stopped to take pictures etc. I felt like royalty! I especially enjoyed the Atlas Mountains with Ibrahim! He was so amazing and helpful. Lunch cooked by his family left me full for a whole day! And the hike was incredible!!The camel ride was just perfect!! I can’t fault this day at all, and at such a great price! I highly recommend booking these amazing people and I will be booking again on my next trip! Thank you so much and good luck post lockdown!!
Great experience if u are willing to spend long hours in a mini ban through very bumpy and under development roads. As the other reviews said the driver makes few stops in crappy road restaurants for quick stops or meals, which I didn't care as I didn't took this trip for fancy meals. Excursions are interesting and of course u have to tip everybody. Best experience and the main reason is to arrive to the entrance to the desert. Camel ride was fun both ways , best is the sunset and sunrise from the Dunes. Berber Camp was fun too, with a nice dinner and music, seeing the clear sky by night was quite special too. Recommended if u want to sleep at the dessert and ride camels. Beware of the 8 -9 hours in the car each way.
Firstly how lucky we were to get a fantastic duo Sajid the Driver and Mohamed the English speaking guide, who was informative, extremely attentive, all day, meeting the groups needs and all done with a laugh and a joke. The day included a berber market visit (Tues only), oil making tour, small waterfalls, various food and drink stops and last but not least a camel ride. Lots of photograph opportunities and a chance to experience a slice of the real Morocco. Even a little shopping thrown in for good measure. A bit of a hike for the initial part of the walking tour, so not good for a person who hasn't got good mobility, although the guide was on hand to assist. Fantastic value for money !
What a wonderful trip for an amazing price. This tour felt like a private tour, it was just the right sized group for it to be social but not overcrowded. The tour matched the description and exceeded our expectations. There is no getting away from it being a long journey, but the frequent stops make it manageable and it is totally worth it to see the Sahara! The stars are amazing!!!!! The accommodation was high quality with private tents and thick blankets - ideal for the chilly nights.
