How many days should you plan for a Marrakech desert tour?

Tours of Marrakech's picturesque desert vary in length from a single afternoon to an adventurous five days. To help you pick the right option, here are some of the best things to do on each.

1 day

Enjoy a camel tour through Marrakech's rural palm groves, race over the dunes on a quad bike, or even do both! Either way, be sure to stop for tea at a traditional Berber village.

2 days

Take in the scenic delights en route to Zagora - among them Aït Benhaddou, an ancient city that has been the backdrop to Hollywood movies from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Gladiator."

3 days

Trek out to the Sahara's famous windswept dunes at Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga, spotting wildlife by day and camping Bedouin-style beneath the stars at night.

4 days

From Aït Benhaddou, detour through Ouarzazate – "Door of the Desert" – and continue over the Atlas Mountains through the historic village of Tamgrout and Irqui National Park.

5 days

Take in all of the above and throw in hikes along the breathtaking Todgha and Dadès Gorges, as well as smaller pleasures like flamingo-watching and traditional music shows!

How much does it cost?

Marrakech desert tours and safaris start at around €50 for an afternoon, with prices reaching closer to €1,000 for all-inclusive day trips lasting four to five days. Discount deals can be found if you book online, but be sure to compare comfort factors like transportation, accommodation, and food, especially for longer tours.

What's the weather like?

Marrakech swelters through hot and humid summers that can reach upwards of 104°F. However, despite the desert landscape, it experiences seasonal rains through its damp and mild winters.

What people are saying about Marrakech

Spectacular and very well organised experience!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the trip. It was very (!) well organised and Aziz (#2) was very welcoming and helpful. Account for a long time in the car - but it was worth it as you get to see the beautiful Atlas Mountains, enjoy the camel rides, stay in a lovely camp (with showers!) and visit 2 historical cities. The value for money is super high! We are very happy that we went!

Such nice staff. Great length of time on the quads and camels.

100% would recommend to anyone and everyone. The quads was one of the coolest things I've done and the desert was beautiful. we even had a group with one slow girl and they got another guide and separated her and her friends from the rest of us so we could go faster. The camels were great too and the staff is so friendly and talking to you the whole time. Both are for 2 - 2.5 hours so you really get a great experience on both. incredible.

Very friendly guides and organization. Unexpectedly good!

Two nights tour to the desert. I really enjoyed the night at the tends. Got a luxury one to avoid the extreme cultural shock and it was an excellent choice. Unexpectedly cool! Freezing at night and early morning obviously, cause you know.. It's the desert, **bring very warm clothes**. But awesome atmosphere with the team who work there. Excellent and totally recommendable!!

Incredible scenery and experience, highlight was the desert!

This trip especially the night in the desert was an amazing experience. A well organised tour, such great value and even with a lot of driving (understandable to get to desert), the views and landscapes were incredible the whole way. There were some great stops! Some tips.. Lunch: sometimes overpriced, instead - eat nearby or bring own food/stock up at the mini marts. Ait Ben Haiddou: tour guide is OPTIONAL but not free (30dh), when you arrive a guide tries to whisk you away but we told both the guide & driver that the itinerary says we can do a self-guided tour (much better), make sure to ask driver when/where to meet after and get good directions to the entrance or follow behind others then freely explore on your own. Hotel Bougafer: good value, make sure to lock the balcony doors Bring or buy a scarf for the desert. Enjoy it, don't compare standards, it's an unforgettable unique experience. Mohammed was a great driver, funny and gave an interesting insight into Moroccan culture.

Really good, would like a bit more freedom on quads

Was really fun and exciting. We would have liked a bit more freedom on the bikes but was still reallly good! It gets really dirty so wear black and bring lots of water! Have us some bread and tea before the camels and tea after the camels. Great day all together
