How many days should you plan for a Marrakech desert tour?

Tours of Marrakech's picturesque desert vary in length from a single afternoon to an adventurous five days. To help you pick the right option, here are some of the best things to do on each.

1 day

Enjoy a camel tour through Marrakech's rural palm groves, race over the dunes on a quad bike, or even do both! Either way, be sure to stop for tea at a traditional Berber village.

2 days

Take in the scenic delights en route to Zagora - among them Aït Benhaddou, an ancient city that has been the backdrop to Hollywood movies from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Gladiator."

3 days

Trek out to the Sahara's famous windswept dunes at Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga, spotting wildlife by day and camping Bedouin-style beneath the stars at night.

4 days

From Aït Benhaddou, detour through Ouarzazate – "Door of the Desert" – and continue over the Atlas Mountains through the historic village of Tamgrout and Irqui National Park.

5 days

Take in all of the above and throw in hikes along the breathtaking Todgha and Dadès Gorges, as well as smaller pleasures like flamingo-watching and traditional music shows!

Marrakech desert tours and safaris start at around €50 for an afternoon, with prices reaching closer to €1,000 for all-inclusive day trips lasting four to five days. Discount deals can be found if you book online, but be sure to compare comfort factors like transportation, accommodation, and food, especially for longer tours.

What's the weather like?

Marrakech swelters through hot and humid summers that can reach upwards of 104°F. However, despite the desert landscape, it experiences seasonal rains through its damp and mild winters.

What people are saying about Marrakech

A quick and easy way to get some local culture

A nice steady camel ride with guides who are very helpful. If you have doubts they ease them by taking you to the camel farm during your ride and explain how they are trained. After a quick brief on riding quad bikes you follow the guide to a berber village where you see treated to a mint tea and very excited friendly children. And if you're lucky a bonus dog. The guide is very helpful and patient with grandad drivers like me whilst giving the more fearless challenges along the way. They even clean the sand off your clothing after the experience. A great combination for a starter point. I will book full day to spend longer on each next time.

Outstanding just so different from the usual

Highlight of our vacation, would have liked an Itinerary and packing list. No water supplied on bus which was very top heavy causing sea sickness

Amazing experience, definitely worth your money. Great trip!

Very good trip, super organized. From Marrakech an amazing activity to do and a superb experience. The camp is quite relax and is definitely not as primitive as I expected.

Very interesting trip! Mustapha the driver was superb.

A really great trip. Spectacular route through High Atlas in a very comfortable vehicle. The driver Mustapha was excellent in every way. He was interesting with lots of knowledge about the places visited. He was very respectful, and allowed us privacy. We found the desert spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed the authentic Berber music.

We loved our camel ride in the Palmeraie!

This was a really fun activity. The guys couldn't have been nicer and they picked us up directly from our hotel in a nice SUV. We went straight to the Palmeriae to meet our camels and guide and had a beautiful sunset ride with just myself and my friend. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Marrakech!
