What people are saying about Lucca
What a fun few hours spent with Luca, our guide. He spoke excellent English and gave us a very interesting tour around Lucca outlining the history and various landmarks. There seemed to be no question he couldn't answer! The bikes were easy to handle and in good condition and the small family-run vineyard was like being invited to lunch by distant family. The tour was very simple, showing winemaking on a small scale but they answered any questions we had and we got to try 3 very nice wines with a delicious lunch. There was no hard sell to get us to buy more wine, but we did anyway! Just as we were due to leave the heavens opened so we were invited back in to drink coffee until the rain had passed. Throughout the day we felt we got very personal service and were not rushed on to the next stage at any time. I would highly recommend this tour.
We were not informed that once we met at the location in downtown Florence that we would board a bus for a thirty minute ride to the location. We have kids that get carsick easily. I would have prepared for that differently. Our point of contact was late due to traffic issues and that cut into our class. That wasn’t anyone’s fault... just not something we were prepared for. I felt a little like we got tricked into leaving the area we were and changing location by such a long distance. On a different note our instructor, Valentina, was AMAZING! We had two kids with us that will undoubtedly remember that class as the best part of our vacation to Florence.
We spent a really nice evening with Thomas and the other participants and enjoyed very good pizza. You get recipes for the pizza and ice cream and get some decisive hints for a good pizza dough. Getting to the place was actually a bit annoying because we had to walk an extra 15 minutes and then went by private bus for 30 minutes because of heavy traffic. In the description it further said 'dinner and drinks' included, which was basically one glass of wine or one soft drink per person, which I expected to be different. Nevertheless, it's a really nice thing to do in Italy.
I really liked the cooking class, I think a big part of its charm is the teacher. In my case the teacher was called Thomas, he explained everything so well and answered all of my questions. Anther important thing I wanted to mention is that I really liked the atmosphere this class had and the teamwork that it involved. In conclusion I would reccomend this class to anyone that has some free hours to spend on Florence while also learning something interesting about cooking.
My adult daughters and I had a memorable day in Lucca! The electric bikes made it so easy to get out of the City and climb the hills in the countryside. Our tour guide Luca was charming and so knowledgeable. It is so rare to find a tour like this that lets you experience a historic city and enjoy home grown wine and local food. Well worth it!
