Full description
Auschwitz-Birkenau is the largest death camp in human history, the site of mass destruction and genocide in Europe during World War II. Currently camp Auschwitz-Birkenau is a synonym for world’s most cruel terror, genocide and atrocities. The camp was built by the Nazis in 1940 in the suburbs of Oswiecim. The total number of deaths and executions is estimated to be over 1.5-million people from 28 nationalities. Almost 90% of these people were Jews.

The former concentration camp leaves a deep impression, partly because it allows you to imagine the scale of the Holocaust. Since 1979 this site has been listed on the UNESCO Cultural and Natural World Heritage list.

After your visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, head to the Wieliczka salt mine, one of the most treasured monuments in Polish cultural history. Over a million tourists from around the world visit the salt mine yearly to see its exquisite carvings and reliefs. This unique place is listed on the UNESCO Cultural and Natural World Heritage List since 1978 placing it even higher on tourists' "to-do list". The miners left dozens of sculptures and bas-reliefs cut out of the salt, keeping their work alive for many further years. There are 800 steps to climb of which 350 at the beginning take you down into the mine. There's a lift to the top of the mine at the end of the route.

Excellent tour! There is a lot of walking! The salt mines you will do about 400 stairs at one point and then 400 more but in smaller increments. ( only going down you will take an elevator back up). Buttt it was totally worth it! It was absolutely amazing. Auschwitz was also an incredible thing to see. I have read about the history but to actually be there and listen to the guide was just something I’ve never experienced between emotion and just the feeling being there. Guides for both tours were extremely knowledgeable. The driver was super helpful gave us bathroom breaks and also brought us right to the guides. It was extremely well planned. One thing I was disappointed about was we saw Auschwitz second. Since I went in October it got darker earlier so by the time we gotto the 2nd camp it was completely dark and we couldn’t see a thing. So if I were you make sure the Auschwitz-Birkenau is the first stop because the salt mines are all underground so it won’t matter about sunlight.

Had a great day, the driver was always prompt, drove really well and the vehicle was clean. We did the salt mines first and then onto Auschwitz-Birkenau. Only critisism is that it was dark when we finished at Auschwitz-Birkenau so would have been better to do them the other way around. (This was the first day after the clocks changed so maybe this caught everybody out).

I was picked up at the meeting point with the rest of the group of 5. It was a long LONG trip so be ready. The driver in all said 3-4 tings during the whole drive.. which was fine cause than you could get some rest. We went to the salt mines first where the driver arranged a meeting with guide who took over and showed the mine. BEAUTIFUL. After we went to get something to eat for about one hour. Which was more than enough. Than a long drive to Aushwitz where we all felt asleep after walking more than an hour in the mines. Same in Aushwitz we were with another guide who perfectly took us around and told the stories. Interesting and worth your time. I can only recommend for you to go back in time.
