Full description
Learn how the village of Hammaburg grew from a small settlement of 800 people to become the second largest city in Germany with 1.86 million residents. Hear about the cholera epidemic and the great fire of 1842 that began in a cigar factory. Learn why the people of Hamburg say "moin" all the time. Hamburg is a big beautiful city with lots of water. It has more bridges than Venice, Amsterdam, and London put together. There is the beautiful Alster Lake with wonderful villas around it. The Town Hall looks a bit like a castle and was built in 1897. See the oldest basin in the city at the Trostbrücke. Marvel at the merchant houses of the Deichstraße. Visit the Church of St. Nicholas, which was reduced to ruins during World War II. Listen to the most sinful stories of the Reeperbahn. It is hard to believe but not everything in this part of the city is about sex and drugs. You will first be told the exciting history of St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn and then head to the different places like Spielbudenplatz, the Dancing Towers, the theater mile, the police station, Hans-Albers-Platz, the Ritze, and of course, the Große Freiheit, where the Beatles became famous. Until 2013 live sex shows were allowed here but they are now forbidden.  Learn the story of Hamburg's old warehouse district and see the amazing glass structure of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. Get breathtaking views of the harbor from the Elbphilharmonie Plaza. Explore the HafenCity district, including the Speicherstadt area, which as declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. Encounter a beautiful courtyard at one of the old warehouses. Learn why spiders are a problem in the HafenCity. Go aboard and see the many different and beautiful sights of the city of Hamburg on a private harbor cruise. The itinerary of the tour is flexible, depending on the tides and daily events. Learn about the city's history, the incoming and outgoing ships, and everything else you might be interested in. Sit back and enjoy the view of the city from the water on one of the sun decks or in one of the air-conditioned salons with large panoramic windows.

Andreas was our guide and I was researching Hamburg for a book. His knowledge and communication was excellent. If there was information I already knew he moved effortlessly to information which illuminated and opened the story. Superb guide highly recommended.
