Our insider tips

When should I go?

Northern California enjoys more temperate weather than its southern counterpart, but it'll still be quite warm. Check the forecast - you don't want your trip to be spoiled by rain!

Do I need a ticket?

If you're planning to view the Golden Gate Bridge from Alcatraz Island, please be aware that Alcatraz is a separate attraction and you'll need to buy a ticket for that in itself. Otherwise, all viewing spots are a matter of navigating public transportation!

How long does a cruise take?

Most of them take around an hour and a half, although you may need to get there 20-30 minutes before departure time to ensure your place.

Good to know

  • When should I visit?
The views are available all day, year round! Traffic restrictions may prevent crossing the bridge at certain times.
  • Is it expensive?
It's always free to view the bridge, but we suggest looking at a few architecture tours to better comprehend the engineering.
  • Will I need a guide?
No -- but here's one idea: book a cruise through San Francisco Bay, and you will be able to take some amazing photos from the water.
  • How to get there
There are many public transportation options available, so take a look, as routes vary depending on the starting point.
  • Additional information

    • Parking in the area is extremely limited, so take public transportation if you can.

    • Make sure you look out for construction alerts (available online or at any tourist information center), in order to avoid scheduled bridge closures.

Customer service at all points was great, informative employees.

I arrived with a few questions and the employees were pleasant and informative. The boat ride was consistent with the scheduled times of departure and return. Disembarking from the boat was easy and the employees were smiling and said goodbye.

Could only have been better if the sun had shone, great cruise

A really enjoyable evening out on the waves with the boys in their really eat catamaran. 2I/C Mike made everyone comfortable while our English/NZ/US skipper took us for really great ride in spite of the pretty chilly grey rolling fog evening. The vessel is very well suited to the types of conditions found in the harbour and I think everyone had a good time even though the weather wasn’t really behaving. The guys have great personalities for mixing with everyone and had most people chatting and assisted with photos, the skipper even making one one of the younger customers experiences all the more exciting by allowing her her up into the wheelhouse to assist steering. A great experience and well worth the money. A highlight of not only our San Francisco trip but also our West Coast America experience, thanks guys. Zena, Auckland, New Zealand

Excellent full day in Redwoods and Wine Country

Great day under the knowledgable guidance of Randall. Meditative time in the Redwoods at Muir Woods, nice lunch in delightful Sonoma and tastings at 3 wineries in Sonoma and Napa valleys. Balanced and well paced trip. We both learned a lot!

We went in a Thursday night so the boat wasn’t full. But would recommend. Enjoyed the dancing as well.
