What people are saying about Fort Lauderdale
Starting with an easy pickup at our hotel, our guide Zach took us on an amazing adventure. We saw lots of birds, identified by Zach, and many alligators. The airboat ride in the ‘Glades was a hoot! Then an easy nature walk on a raised walkway in the Cypress Swamp. A great lunch at a local, non-touristy restaurant. Next a boat ride among the coastal islands. I was expecting something sedate, but those boats can move! We saw dolphins, two types of pelicans, and much more. Then we wandered through a museum that was formerly a trading post and local store with post office. On the ride back to our hotel, Zach regaled us with stories from his youth in a somewhat different Florida. Altogether a wonderful day!
We saw 4 alligators during the trip. Bob our captain told us all about the history and environmental issues of the Everglades and its inhabitants. Amazing trip and you get the chance to hold a baby gator in the exhibit area for a small donation. Ear defenders not supplied like other tours but earplugs are provided.
We enjoyed the boat ride when we were moving, a short, brief stop is fine, but the stop was waaaaay to look long. Got very hot and stinky and boring. Should have been more racing across the seagrass. The little zoo was great my grandsons loved the gator holding. All the animals were interesting.
Sawgrass Recreation Park provided a great Airboat experience. We managed to spot 2 alligators even though the high water level made it more difficult. There is also a small collection of animals here - all rescue animals who could not survive in the wild - very intetesting.
Our guide Marc shared his knowledge on a very pleasant way. His enthusiasm and love for the everglades is really an added value for this trip. The trip itself with the different stops is well organized. The boat trips are certainly worthwhile. We really enjoyed this day.
