We booked and paid for skip the line however when we showed our tickets they wouldn’t scan so we had to go through the normal queue. Luckily for us it wasn’t busy when we went at 10pm. Enjoyed walking through and learning more about the Empire State, there is also a King Kong replica where you can get photos as if he is holding you! At the top there are heaters all around so you don’t feel too cold. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would recommend this.

It was a good experience. The line was long but took only about 45 minutes and was indoors. The views from the 86th floor outside platform were excellent and allow viewing in every direction. You can see we’ll beyond the East and Hudson Rivers, and beyond the northern edge of Central Park. While other tall buildings block the views of many streets, you can see the 9-11 Memorial building and parts of the Rockefeller Plaza skating rink and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The view of the skyline was very interesting in each direction. Note that the elevator ride- a very fast yet smooth ride- only goes to the 82nd floor, which has only indoor viewing through windows, and it’s crowded. You have to take a staircase up to the 86th floor and back down. If you’re reasonably healthy, it’s well worth the effort.

We planned to do both the One Observatory and The Empire State so we did the One Observatory during the day and the Empire State Building at sunset. I highly recommend the sunset view from The Empire State building if you plan to do both on your visit. The sunset on the horizon with the New York City lights lighting up the view below was absolutely stunning, and quite romantic. We also went to the 102nd floor but there really was no need. You didnt see anything different there except you're viewing it through glass so an unnecessary extra we thought.
