  • Visit the picturesque and typically Scottish township of Inveraray
  • See stunning lochs like Awe and Fyne
  • Explore the ruins of Inveraray Castle
  • Travel the "Rest and Be Thankful" route
Full description
From Edinburgh we travel west, passing the historic and imposing Stirling Castle, high on its volcanic rock, and on to a visit at the magnificent Doune Castle (which featured in the cult movie ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’). From there we drive into the Highlands, past the lovely Loch Lubnaig and up through impressive Glen Ogle, stopping nearby for lunch and beautiful views of the surrounding scenery.

After lunch we drive further into the Highlands, stopping to view one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, Kilchurn Castle, jutting into beautiful Loch Awe and stunningly framed by the surrounding mountains. Then it’s on to Inveraray, a quaint small town built in the mid-18th century, on the shore of Loch Fyne. Explore the town and pick up some Highland souvenirs, or pay an optional visit to Inveraray Castle (April to October only), the historic home of the Duke of Argyll, chief of the Clan Campbell, which is set in large beautiful gardens overlooking Loch Fyne.

We now start our homeward journey, driving over the Arrochar Alps, an attractive range of mountains, with a brief pause near the top of the Rest and Be Thankful Pass. A little later we reach enchanting Loch Lomond, where we stop at the pretty lochside village of Luss before returning to Edinburgh.

This one day tour gives you a picture on Lochs and hills. two castles were included - the first one Doune castle was not very interesting, would suggest to change this part of the day tour. As far as I see the other tour office runs smaller buses with wifi, if I would go again, would vote for that tour.

Our Tour guide (Tonks) was EXCELLENT! So many stories and tidbits of info while driving. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of how long it takes to drive - which means less time at each place. That's not Tonks' fault, but it is important to know when you book so that you can book the tour that is the right fit for you.

This was an amazing tour! Doune and Inveraray castles are great! The town of Inveraray is a peaceful and very nice place. We got a bonus stop at the site of Bannockburn battle, also glimpses of the Kelpies and Stirling castle. Unfortunately we couldn't stop at Kilchurn castle, so we got to see it only through the window, but still it is very beautiful. At the Rest and be thankful stop, we got to see the beauty of Scotland's nature, which I love so much! Also very nice was the stop at Luss village at Loch Lomond. Our guide - Dan was amaaaazing! He told us many facts about the places we saw, also he has a great sense of humour. He made an efford and showed us some hairy hairy highland cows! He is really a great guy and made the tour great, too! Totally recommend!
