What people are saying about Chochołów
Thoroughly enjoyed our day in the mountains especially the picturesque photo opportunities. We stopped at loads of different places to see points of interest so it never felt too much time was spent on the minibus. Gregory our guide was the best we had from all of our trips. Friendly and in-depth knowledge. He tried very hard to make it the day we wanted rather than just following the itinerary. The thermal baths were busy of course but the facilities of the place were good, again Gregory showed us what was what so we knew what to do. The baths were super relaxing and being outside in warm water with views of the mountains was special. We all said though, we should have visited the mountains and baths on our last day to relax after the many miles we had covered in Kracow! We know next time!
We met our guide Tomac at the tourist office in the main square and were told it was just us in the car - so in effect a private tour. Tomac was really knowledgeable and explained lots about the area. Zakopane had snow 2 days before so was really picturesque. We went up the funicular railway to the top where there were lots of xmas market stalls. We then met Tomac a couple of hours later and went into town where he dropped us off for another couple of hours. He then took us to the Olympic ski jumps and showed us the typical wooden houses on the way home. A full day out but really worth it.
We contract "Zakopane & Tatras Mountains from Krakow WITH Options", but the travel agency offered only transportation and said it was WITHOUT options, in spite of seeing the voucher. We left about one hour late and had to buy the tickets to the funicular in Zakopane (2 x 22 PLN - total 10,55 € more) In fact, they said we had only a "transfer" to Zakopane, without funicular - and no Tatra Mountains.
The village with the wooden houses is nice and clean. The house visited was more like a museum. Zakapone is bigger than I thought with a big car free mile with lots of shops and cafes. The view on the mountain is limited because of the growing trees. If there would be more time, it would be a good hiking place.
This was a very full day. The tree top walk was closed so we went on the raft trip instead which was much longer but beautiful. Mario’s knowledge of the area and history was very impressive. A visit to the spas was very enjoyable and needed on a such a cold day having spent a couple of hours on the river!
