Full description
Day 1

Depart from Edinburgh and travel northwest. Take a quick stop to photograph Doune Castle, famously used as the fictional Castle Leoch in the TV show Outlander. Continue north and enjoy the dramatic backdrop of mountains and lochs as you journey to Glencoe. Stop for lunch and afterward head to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was featured in Harry Potter movies. Continue along to the Isles to Mallaig and then drive through Sleat to Portree, the island capital and your base for the next two nights.

Day 2

Spend the day touring the Isle of Skye. Begin with a scenic drive alongside the dramatic Trotternish Ridge and stop at Lealt Waterfall and the Kilt Rock. Take a walk at the Quiraing amongst the unique and unusual rock architecture before driving to Uig for lunch. Afterward explore the magic of the Fairy Glen, a delightful miniature Highland landscape and legendary home of the 'wee people.' Next, go to the most westerly point on Skye and walk to Neist Point Lighthouse and see some of the most dramatic sea cliffs in Scotland. Conclude the day with a visit to the world-famous Fairy Pools and then head back to your accommodation in Portree.

Day 3

Return to the mainland for your first stop at Eilean Donan Castle, a must-see Scottish castle. Next, visit Loch Ness, Scotland’s legendary lake and best known for the alleged sightings of a monster. Enjoy lunch in Fort Augustus at the southerly tip of Loch Ness. Have the opportunity to walk by the shores of the loch or along the canal and lock system, built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s. Continue on to Inverness for a quiet night in or a late night out.

Day 4

Begin the day at Culloden Moor battlefield and learn how the Jacobites were finally defeated by government soldiers in 1746. Then head to Clava Cairns, 4000-year-old stone circles and burial mounds. Move onward to the Highland Folk Museum, then have a little whiskey at a distillery. Enjoy a final visit to the Hermitage before heading back to Edinburgh.
