Best things to do in Cairo

You can't swing a hookah in Cairo without striking archeological treasure! "The City of a Thousand Minarets" boasts not only stunning Ottoman mosques, but ancient wonders and a clash of modern and traditional cultures. Here's what to see.

Pyramid of Djoser

Book a day trip to this stepped tomb built by the earliest known architect, Imhotep. The Pyramid of Djoser has survived over 4 millenia, though all that remains of the Pharoah Djoser is his left foot!

Egyptian Museum of Antiquities

The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including Tutankhamen's solid gold death mask. Expect strict security measures, but it's truly a must-see!

Al-Azhar Park

Finished in 2005, it's already hard to imagine how the site of the breathtaking Al-Azhar Park was once a mountain of garbage accumulated over five centuries!

Al-Azhar Mosque

For a tour of Cairo's religious life and history, there's no better place to start than at the city's oldest mosque. Al-Azhar Mosque was built in 970AD and it's also home to the world's first university!

Khan Al-Khalili

Khan Al-Khalili,Cairo's most prominent souk (market), is as old as the Egyptian capital itself, and its economic heart still beats with tourists and locals alike!

Mosque of Muhammad Ali

Crowning its citadel is Cairo's most prominent landmark. Not only is the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali one of the best places to visit, it offers greats views of the city too.

Giza Necropolis

Though home to two of Cairo's most famous icons – the Great Pyramids and Sphinx – the Necropolis' best attraction might actually be the fascinating ancient workers' village.

What people are saying about Cairo

Super fun, informative and an experience to remember!

We had a really great tour. We were picked up in Safaga at 1 am and arrived in Cairo at around 10.00 am. It was a long travel but everything was smooth running and on schedule. Then we met our English guide outside the museum . She was great. Forgot her name though but we are group “Horus” (July 4,2019). She gave us a lot of information (historical facts) during the museum tour. Then afterwards we went to a tour in the Nile river for about 30-45 mins (paid 10 euros extra) but it was worth it. Then we had lunch in Giza overlooking the pyramids. Afterwards, pyramids tour. We went camel riding (10 euros pp) but with an official camel guy. It was an unforgettable experience...plus the camel guy took great photos and videos of us. Afterwards, we went inside the pyramid! Yes bucket list checked! Then lastly we went to the perfumerie and we got good deals with oils. It was legit! Then we head back to Safaga...

a fascinating full day with all aspects of Cairo covered

We were met at the hotel by our guide "Amina" her english was very good. she was extremely passionate and knowlegeable on all aspects of the tour ( she was actually a teacher of egyptology at the university showing her depth of knowledge) After explanations of each area we were given free time to explore and take photos. The overall tour exceeded 7hrs which made it more enjoyable Dinner was at a local restaurant ( near sphinx) and was very filling. The day was great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone. The only downside was that at times with such a full agenda things appeared hurried - we wouldve liked more time in the museum. If anyone books this tour I hope you get Amina, she was excellent and had a great sense of humour

Cairo: Egyptian Museum, Pyramids & Bazaar Tour Reviewed by michael, 08/27/2019

Long day that could have been planned better but still amazing

up at 03:00. Back at the hotel at 00:30. longest day of my life but the pyramids were fantastic. I don't want to go to the papyrus shop or a perfumery. and this all added to the length of the day. we also spent nearly 3 hours in the airport waiting for our flight. The guide was very good (even if I don't believe that they were tombs). But with a bit more planning and a bit less crap shops that NONE of us wanted to go to this day could have been amazing. It still was great but slightly tainted but being ferried in to shops.

King Tuts mask, sailed on the Nile and see the Pyramids, outstanding!

It's a long day but that is the nature of the trip. Felt a bit rushed and would have liked more time at the Pyramids but this was due to people being late at every stop. Apart from that i have ticked off numerous things from my bucket list. The Pyramids being the highlight. The tour guide was excellent and extremely helpful throughout. I would reccomend this trip as it is excellent value for money.

So glad we booked this. Would highly recommend.

We had a great time. Accompanied by our 4 children, the drive time was hectic and we were worried about it on booking. However, it ended up being a very memorable day for us all. The trip was well planned and we pretty much got to see all of the main sites. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
