Very, very convenient and easy way to use all the public transportation you want, especially the trams running up and down the Danube. Lots of good museums and activities, too. Be careful if you book baths on line, for example. There was no way to get the 20% off offered by the Budacard when we booked the Gellert Baths on-line. And the funincular (supposed to be 100% off) is no longer part of the program.

A card is needed for those who want an active holiday. And a card in this design is not so much a saving as your convenience, because most options are not free, but give only a discount. But it provides convenient and trouble-free movement around the city, and in some cases even interesting and entertaining excursions.

The attractions were great but the price of the card was way above the discounts. We got the 72h card, we visited 2 museums, the science center scopa, took a cruise, Buda castle, fishermen bastion, St Steven Basilica, Buda Tower and the island. We used the public transport only 1-2 times per day, the city is very beautiful and worth walking. In the brochure they had an example on how to use the card to get maximum discounts, but half of the amount in the example was covered by dinner/lunch and walking tours. They had like 4 meals in card restaurants, but the restaurant list is very short and we wanted to try local spots not some full tourists ones. Also, the 2 walking tours (20€ each person without the card) is something I can do on my own without the guide, so no reason to get a card for that. Budapest was really great but the tourist card is not worth it unless you want to visit 10 museums in 72h. You can have much more of local fun at the same price.
