Begin your journey in Boston and travel past the prestigious universities, M.I.T. and Harvard, located just across the river in Cambridge. View Cambridge Common, where George Washington took command of the Continental Arm, and drive along "Tory Row", past the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Traveling through the historic countryside towns of Belmont and Lexington, you can follow the route of Paul Revere and William Dawes as they risked it all to warn the colonials that the "British are coming!"

Stand on Lexington Green, where the 77 Minutemen stood their ground against 700 of England's finest regulars, signaling the start of the American Revolutionary War. View the homes of renowned authors Hawthorne, Alcott and Emerson before arriving at the North Bridge, where the embattled farmers stood and fired the shot heard 'round the world'.

On your return to Boston, make a stop at the historic and popular Faneuil Hall/Quincy Marketplace where you can have lunch and do some shopping. I can’t recommend this tour highly enough. The tour is very well paced, and gives the visitor an excellent overview of the key sights and history of Boston. What Sam, our guide, doesn’t know about Boston probably isn’t worth knowing, and he goes that extra mile and a half to make your tour memorable, enjoyable, and fun.

It was a great way to learn "on the ground" about the first armed conflict between Colonial militia and British regulars at Lexington and Concord. It was very moving to stand on the very ground where blood was spilled to set in motion the American Revolution. Our driver, Sam, was passionate about trying to make this an enjoyable experience. He said he'd been doing this work a long time, and it showed, but he was never bored or indifferent during the day. That said, I was disappointed at his invitation for us to "show some love" (leaving tips). There was a tip basket prominently displayed near his seat where we exited the bus. I got the impression he might have "seeded" the basket on his own when his passengers were off the bus, because I remember being surprised to see a number of $20's and $10's that suddenly appeared in the basket. And on another occasion, before we left the bus, he asked us to give him a review on the spot by showing 1 to 5 fingers, with 5 being the best.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time touring with Sam! He was easy going, very knowledgeable and very entertaining. We saw too much to mention, and ended our tour knowing more about this wonderful town than we could have imagined! This was a great experience and we highly recommend taking any tour Sam is leading!
