What people are saying about Bavaria

A great experience overall (once an initial hick-up had been resolved)

The actual boarding process in Munich was very confusing & could be handled a LOT better. Even though two of their employees viewed our voucher, we ended up on the wrong bus & had to contend with a very rude & arrogant tour guide. When we arived at Linderhof Castle, I asked if this sort of mix up had happened before. His response, "Yes." When I asked how it was fixed, he responded by saying, "It cannot." I immediately made my displeasure known... quite vocally. By the time the Linderhof tour was over, this tour guide introduced me to another guide, who was from the correct bus, and we then joined the correct tour. From then on, it was great. The original tour guide was also observed in a heated discussion with a pair of American girls who'd been split off from their friends in Munich. I don't know what the outcome of their issue was, but I observed him bieng as rude and arrogant to them as he had been to me. In view of this, I would not recommend Grayline Tours to anyone.

Beautiful and busy day trip to see beautiful castles!

If you're looking to see multiple castles in Germany, go for the VIP tour! We went with a group of 6, and we had a blast. The bus was roomy, comfortable, and stocked with snacks, drinks, and even happy hour wine and beer. Our driver was excellent and drove very carefully on some of the super-curvy roads - no Dramamine required. The schedule was tight, so you don't get to really wander much, but you do get lots of direction and everything is very efficient. It's not a tour for dawdlers or those who like to explore away from the group. The castles were gorgeous (even under lots of construction), and our tour guide was helpful and knowledgeable. One minor complaint is that there was a LOT of talking by our guide on the bus, pretty much non-stop for the entire duration of the tour, and I would have preferred some time to just drink in the scenery, enjoy some music, or chat with my friends without a constant drone of (semi-related) facts. That said, it was still a great time!

A memorial to the dead, a warning to the living.

Our guide, Tom, earned 5 stars. He was extremely knowledgeable & articulate. He presented us with lots of history & fleshed out the narrative with details. He guided us around the site for 4 hours. The tour company, however, earned only 3 stars. The company relies on public transportation to get the group to the camp. First a train to the town of Dachau, then a bus to the camp. Unfortunately on this day the buses stopped arriving at the camp just when hundreds of visitors were ready to leave. The tour guides had only one way to get their groups back to the train station. On foot! It's a 45 min. walk to the station, which severely challenged some of the older group members. At the very least a description of the transportation & the amount of walking the tour requires should be included in the tour description.

Awesome! Above and beyond our expectations!

We started off in the Marienplatz and we got a little history lesson that was interesting. We picked up a lot of interesting information on the Victorian market. We ate traditional Bavarian breakfast weisswurst at one of the first restaurants in Munich. I was hesitant at first because of the white color but it tastes great. We then tried several exotic fruits at one of the stands, all amazing and some I had never tried before. We then tried a few cheeses, spreads, natural remedies at another stand. Again, all tasted very good. Our last thing we had was a traditional dessert. I forgot the name but it was similar to a sweet roll with some type of glaze on the top and filled with cooked plums. Our tour lasted a little over 3 hours and we very much enjoyed it.

Eric made this tour one of the interesting & informative tours I have

Eric is a great asset to your company what a charming and enthusiastic person who made this tour outstanding in site. His sheer abundance of knowledge & passion on history really made this tour . We would have liked to have been able to tip as most tours give that option . Eric also ensured he had spoken to each and everyone of us from all around the globe ! Made it a personal touch which is usually a difficult task with large groups . Thank you Eric much appreciation.
