The musicians we saw were excellent. I understand that the program varies, and the musicians vary. Ours were of the highest quality - 2 violins & 1 bass. One of the violinists was a virtuoso & performed several of his pieces without reading music. The setting, in a small chapel in The Residenz Palace, was exquisite. Mozart had performed there, not surprisingly. You do sit on hard wooden pews, so that is the only drawback. They ask you to arrive at 6, and the concert is at 6:30, so you have a bit to wait after being seated. The entrance can be hard to find - it is one of the doors to the Residenz which has Lions at the doorway, which helps to identify it. They also give the street & surrounding shops for reference points. Many attendees dressed nicely. We only saw the show as we did not need to have the dinner, which we understand is at a nearby restaurant.
The half day tour was rushed and did not allow us time to stop and look at the visual displays and photos that have been prepared. There is a book which shows the panels and I bought that so that I can take the time later to read and absorb. We did not go near the churches and I think that this was an important aspect of the site that was mentioned in passing but did not permit a moment for reflection in whatever form you might wish it to take. If I did this again I would use a full day and give this place the time and thought that it deserves. Having said that, if you are short of time then this tour was well organised and will suit your purpose.
Eric is a great asset to your company what a charming and enthusiastic person who made this tour outstanding in site. His sheer abundance of knowledge & passion on history really made this tour . We would have liked to have been able to tip as most tours give that option . Eric also ensured he had spoken to each and everyone of us from all around the globe ! Made it a personal touch which is usually a difficult task with large groups . Thank you Eric much appreciation.
With a background in history, philosophy and English lit, I felt like I was in a walking college course on National Socialism and the experience of the prisoners at Dachau. Eric was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to engage us as well as our kids (aged 12-17). The experience itself if sobering and impactful - I list it in the top two of our experiences over the 2 1/2 weeks we were in Germany. Never Again.
Our tour guide, Kathleen, was PHENOMENAL. Her narrative and technique in educating the history and process of the camp was fantastic, incredible, well done. I can’t say enough how much I appreciate her and the way she took us through the journey of Dachau’s history. We are very grateful for the experience and learned way more than anticipated. Would recommend to any and everyone!
