Full description
Depart Athens and drive through the fertile plain of Boeotia, crossing the town of Thebes, world-renowned for its tragic story of King Oedipus. Continue through the picturesque towns of Livadeia and Arachova on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Upon arrival at Delphi, explore the "Omphalos" ("Navel of the Earth") and marvel at the ruins of an ancient sanctuary that grew rich as the seat of the oracle. Learn how its influence extended beyond the confines of the Hellenic world, and take in the views of a landscape of unparalleled beauty. See the remains of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios, and visit the Treasury of the Athenians. Look at the remaining columns of the Temple of Apollo, and go to the Delphi Archaeological Museum where masterpieces of Ancient Greek sculpture can be found. Look at the legendary Charioteer of Delphi, regarded as one of the finest bronze sculptures of the ancient world. See the statue of the athlete Aghias and other artifacts from antiquity. Enjoy lunch in the modern village of Delphi, before the return trip to Athens by the same route (if selected). A short stop in Arachova will be provided for your comfort. Clients staying on the coast will depart for their hotels from the local supplier's terminal at around 19:30.

The day tour to Delphi was great. The bus was spacious, easily recognizable at the pick-up point, and left on time. Our guide brought us into the archeological site and museum and provided the same commentary in English and French, and that's fine with us. Arachova was slightly disappointing compared to Delphi as we had only 15-20 minutes to walk around for photos before heading back to Athens. The other downside is that the restaurant where lunch was served is not near Arachova. As we did not order lunch, we could not use the one hour lunch break to walk around or explore that town.

The guide was good and provided interesting information. The group size was too big to make a tight enough circle around the guide to hear her. Also the pick up instructions should be clearer. There were 5-6 buses in the same area. Knowing the color of the bus and/or that the tour company name is displayed on the windshield would have been helpful to know.

Guide was excellent and fluent in English and French but I found it very annoying having to listen to the commentary twice in French and English as I’m sure the French people on our bus did listening to the commentary in English, the 2 groups should have been split as a French couple sitting on our table of English speakers for lunch spoke no English at all
