Considered all the options to get from Marco Polo airport to Venice. While shared water taxis seemed to be an option for a spectacular arrival, I felt from the pictures that they would sit too low in the water, be crowded, really not give a good return for cost! The choice for us was the Express Bus! Got our tickets on line and printed them. Stepped out the ground transportation area and there were the buses! The clerks were efficient, understood English, helped with the validation process! The bus was clean. The ride was quick, safe, a really great option to get a feel for the location of Piazzale Roma in Venice. Upon arrival, it is easy to transfer to water taxi (vaporetto) service to the entire city. The vaporetto runs like a metro system with many stops along the canal. Stops often have more than one boarding area, coordinating to the direction and other stops it makes. The content of this tour is wonderful. Audio guide is thorough and comprehensive. We were a little surprised that the pre-booking does not not allow quicker acces to the Palace. The staff allow chunks of the three queues (no ticket, pre-paid and groups) through in turn to regulate acces to the Palace and no one que is favoured. Having said this once inside the tour is excellent.
Although slightly more than just buying from a ticket machine, it was reassuring that we had transport cover which included return to the bus pick-up point on the last day to get to the airport. We used the water busses to get from Venice to Lido, Burano and Murano, as well as using the bus on Lido and getting around Venice itself.
Thought this was a great value for money trip that gave us a good overview of the 3 islands. Loved Burano & Murano & enjoyed Torcello more than I was expecting. Length of time was fine. Murano glass blowing was great - kids still can’t believe he could make a horse in such a short space of time.
If you buy online tickets and collect them from a machine beware that the PIN number needed to collect the tickets is not on the email. Instead you need open the pdf and the collection code is the one that runs vertically up the ticket itself. This was not clear and should be made clearer.
