What people are saying about Temple of Poseidon
Christof the tour guide was knowledgeable, informative, organised and very friendly , although the information about the Poseidon Temple conveyed his assistant was less self-assured. The trip took us along the scenic route along the Sounio Peninsula, stopping three times to briefly visit a thermal lake (23-29 degrees Celsius), previewing the Sounio Cape at a distance with the Poseidon Temple, and stopping for 1 hour 15 minutes at a beachside restaurant for a swim (we didn't feel we had enough time and the water felt a bit cold so we skipped this activity) and dinner. Then visiting the Temple ruins (additional 8 euros per adult) as the sun was slowly setting with a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea was a truly memorable experience.
Our guides were terrific (Christof and Vicky, who was in training)! Pickup near our airb&b (in Centro with no car traffic, so we met at a a nearby hotel) was very convenient. They were informative and enthusiastic. The meal was decent, not great, at one of the 3 restaurants in the area where we stopped to swim with the Temple of Poseidon poised up on the hill above. Disappointed and sad to see how much plastic was in the water, although we did step into the Aegean for a brief dip. Sunset over the ruins was spectacular, crowded but my family of four easily found a spot to sit together.
My boyfriend and I had the most amazing trip to Cap Sounio. Our guide (who also drove the van) that picked us up at our hotel was very kind and told us about the history of Athens. Even though we had to drive for almost 3 hours to get there - it was worth every penny. The first stop on the way was the beach. AMAZING! And then we sat down to eat dinner on the local restaurant, which was also very good. The last stop before we headed home was of course the Temple. It was SO beautiful with the sun setting over the sea. We can definitely recommend this trip!
While the trip was worthwhile, our guide did not really add much. While he spoke English, his explanations left much to be desired. He added a dinner stop on the way home that was not mentioned in the information about the trip (we paid of course). While our food was pretty good, the stop created tension between those who wanted to stop to eat & those who had previously scheduled plans in Athens. Additionally the driver/guide did not know to handle the situation. I imagine with a different guide, the excursion would be wonderful.
We were a group of 9 and this private tour was the best we did in Greece!!! Both brothers were very helpful and told us Greece history during our trip. We’ve taken other boat trips with snorkeling in other places but this one was special bcse they taught us how to do that and were patient with my kids. They took more than the 7 hrs they advertised. At the end they recommended us one restaurant and took us there. He helped us to order... they were LO MAXIMOOOO!!!
