What people are saying about Sultanahmet District

Great historical attraction brought to life.

Thank goodness we booked the tour. Our guide took us on a route around the whole palace, including the harem, bringing each place to life as we passed through. It all took a good three hours. Imagine how long it would have taken us if we had tried to do it alone ! Much, much longer. Or, more realistically, we would have missed a lot of places and missed out on the stories and the descriptions our guide provided to really understand palace life. The guide spoke very good, well articulated, English. Ours was a small group of seven, so it was easy to keep together, hear the guide and have the opportunity to ask questions. Sadly, there are still inaccessible areas under renovation, but that didn't detract too much from the experience. Skipping the ticket queue was a great time saver as well. Just be aware that there is a lot of walking with some flights of stairs too. But it is well worth it for this fascinating attraction. Wear comfortable footwear and have a bottle of water in your bag.

An authentic experience that is well worth the money and time

Our guide Nadir was great; friendly and professional. We really like him. Our host is absolutely lovely. She made a simple but large and delicious meal that we all did our best to polish off. She was so friendly and welcoming and seemed to genuinely enjoy having us there and feeding us. I would suggest that the host could be more part of the meal rather than just serving, although I felt a little awkward chatting in English while she could not understand. That is just a difficulty in this situtation but maybe the guide could translate more? It's not the easiest job but would help! I definitely suggest learning to greet someone in Turkish as it is just good manners and I think it is appreciated if you just try. The tea house was great and the best tea in Turkey thus far. I would have liked to stay for a game. Our fellow guests Rose, Steve and Susan made the it more fun. Thank you. All in all, this was the best money we spent this holiday and a fantastic evening.

Although a bit expensive, I enjoyed the 3 hours of the tour

The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He guided us through the palace, explaining major details and even interesting side stories related with the palace. He did not seem to rush us and took the time to explain what we should visit and answer any questions the group had. If you want to know more about the palace and its history, I recommend this tour. Although a bit expensive, I believe it is about right in terms of price/quality, as you would be paying around 10£ per hour + tickets. You also have the perk of skipping any queue (in our case there was none because we started early.

Awesome evening with an experienced and knowledgable guide!

From the nerve settling introduction to the last piece of Turkish delight it was truly a night to remember. I was Looking for something out of the ordinary and found it! Local custom and cuisine at the home of our host for the evening provided an immersive experience like none I have ever experienced. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get out of their shell and experience local culture on a one on one basis. Ekrem our guide did a wonderful job and made the evening flow from start to finish! Highly recommended!

Breath-Taking acoustics in Cistern and colourful bazaar

Lovely places to visit - There is not much to do at the Baslica Cistern apart from take pictures at different angles to get some lovely effects. When music is playing it resonates throughout and is pleasing to the ears. Grand Bazaar is awesome and a wealth of things to see and do. Do not like the repetition of so much of the same thing. After a while it all merges into one!!!! Hagia Sophia is interesting to view and worth the visit and understanding some of its history.
