What people are saying about South of Broad, Charleston
We met our guide, Amy in Washington park and proceeded at a leisurely pace around the downtown area. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. She recommended several museums, explained about Charleston 's early life, the southern people and their homes. An interesting fact is that a lot of downtown Charleston is below sea level and was filled in to have land to build on. She also pointed out several of Charleston's home gardens and had pictures of them in full bloom. It would be lovely to visit again in the spring!
Very nice way of getting to know the city. We've learned to do this in European cities, and it works equally well here for the first day of the visit. Our guide, John, was a history major and very well versed in the city timeline. Also good at answering ad lib questions. Definitely recommended!
I could have continued for another hour. Our guide knew a lot and was candid which I enjoyed. She talked very fast and not being aware of the history, it took me longer to process the things she said but gave me a better sense of Charleston and the past and present glories and struggles.
Appreciated my family being permitted to sit in the front seat. My uncle and aunt are in their 80's and hard of hearing. My husband is retired from the military and is paid a disability pension in addition to his regular pension for hearing loss.
Scott our guide was wonderful--knowledgeable and funny. Barry was a great horse. We were so happy that we took the tour! We recommended to others at our hotel and they were happy with the tour as well.
