Full description
Easter is a beautiful time in Rome — a time when new life is springing into view everywhere. On this tour, deepen your appreciation of the Christian meaning of Easter as you visit some of the most stunning and poignant sights in the city.

Begin at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where your expert guide will explain the history and tradition of the building dating back to the first century AD. Marvel at the stunning golden mosaics, learn about the symbolism of the art, and kneel before the ancient relics of the crib of the birth of Jesus.

Then, cross to a starkly contrasting basilica that has been used for worship since at least the year 112 AD. This basilica is most famous for the marble column on which Jesus was flogged by Pontius Pilate before his crucifixion.

From there, venture on to a more modern church that is home to arguably the most famous icon in the world: the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Your guide will recount its fascinating history and the symbolism of the art before you see the original with your own eyes.

Continue on to the stone steps on which Pontius Pilate judged Jesus, which were brought to Rome in 326 AD; the Cathedral of Rome, which houses the skulls of Saint Peter and Saint Paul; and the last basilica, which contains a significant number of holy artifacts, including fragments from the Holy Sepulchre and a nail that pierced Jesus’ flesh.
