Top 5 things to see on a Rome bus tour

From hop on hop off bus tours around the Eternal City, to small coach excursions, to the more far-flung sights, here are some of the best things you can do on a bus tour around Rome.

Colosseum

Colosseum

Marvel at Rome's famous Colosseum as well as other nearby attractions. While in the area, your bus will also pass the Roman Forum and the Arch of Constantine!

Appian Way

Appian Way

This historically strategic road – along which Spartacus' army was crucified – dates back to 312 BC. Bus tours can help discover ancient aqueducts and the Tomb of Cecilia Metella.

St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica

The largest church in the world is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. Supposedly, it was built over the burial place of St. Peter, the apostle and first Pope of Rome.

Catacombs of Rome

Catacombs of Rome

Rome has no less than 40 mass tombs buried beneath its suburbs. The best way to visit the Catacombs is as part of a bus tour that includes stops for exploring!

Piazza Venezia

Piazza Venezia

The name of this huge piazza derives from the square's Venetian Palace. However, it'll be the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II that catches your eye!

Planning Your Visit

What time of day to go?

If you plan on booking a bus tour that allows stops to alight and explore – whether within the city or outside of its limits – it's best to leave as early as possible to avoid crowds and traffic. However, if you're merely after great views from your window seat, why not tour the city by night, when many of its monuments will be spectacularly lit?

How much does it cost?

Prices for Rome bus tour tickets start at €10 for a basic hop-on hop-off package, to over €100 for small-group tours that include attraction tickets and/or meals.

What people are saying about Rome

Our family of 5 with children ages 15, 12 and 10 really enjoyed the golf cart tour around the city. Eugene did a great job interacting with the kids and asking them questions. He also tailored the tour to our interests. My wife and I have toured the city in one day on a previous tour; I can say the golf cart is an ideal way to see the city allowing flexibility to go anywhere. One of my favorites of the 3.5 hours was visiting a park above the city with a view of all of Rome.

This is one of the most interesting tours imaginable. I usually like to do and see things unguided but I learnt and saw so much more by going on this tour. I would never have found some of the places we saw. This was the second time I went in this tour and I have recommended it to others who also loved it.

Really easy to book using the app although the lady at the bus could have been a little more helpful explaining how the tour works when we arrived as it took us a few minutes to get the headphones to work. The tour took in all the major sites and the audio guide was really informative

A great trip. Well worth the early start and great value for money. Our guide and driver were both excellent. A different guide took us through Pompeii and showed us a lot of things we would otherwise have missed. The Amalfi coast is stunning.

Our Driver Paulo was great and patient. Our tour guide Iliria in Pompeii was so knowledgeable and again so patient with our 3 year old. Definitely recommend this day trip to anyone and everyone! Wonderful memories made here!
