What people are saying about Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
We were upgraded so this review can only match in part but the tour guide was great, the driver was solid (through ice and snow and rain and blizzard hour after hour). The landscapes of Iceland are extraordinary. A bleak and monochrome twilight that feels quite unlike all other places I have visited. Lava fields that stretch on for hours. Huge panoramas. Lonely waterfalls. The gaping blue jaws of glaciers drooling over mountain sides. It took 7 hours to reach the glacier lagoon where, for the first time, I saw blue icebergs slowly shifting in the jaws of the lagoon waiting for the tides to turn. Eventually they spewed into the Atlantic where beneath grey skies the beached icebergs clung to the black sands like tired walruses while angry waves pummelled them and dragged them away from the shore. We saw all that and a couple of magical waterfalls. A grand day out.
The destinations were incredible and our guide, Matt, made the day extra special with his infinite knowledge, witty repartee and interesting anecdotes. Following on from our trip the previous day, which covered the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon, this trip was a great extension of our exploration of Iceland. A fantastic day out. At each location, Matt ensured we were fully aware of the history, folklore, changes due to global warming etc. He also had an eye to safety issues.
The tour allowed me to see some great highlights in Iceland since I had limited time. We stopped at great places and the guide was flexible with the schedule and rearranged visits to make sure it wasn't too crowded. He provided information about Iceland and was clear about our schedule, which gave plenty of time at each stop. Recommended on your stopover!
This trip is all about the spectacular sights and it’s a long day. However our guide made the day fly by with detailed information, amusing anecdotes and being Icelandic, a few marvellous fictional tales involving elves and trolls!! A truly magic day thanks to Frosty ( and he is real, nothing to do with winter and cold!!
Little time was given to inspect the beauty of Iceland. It was necessary to run everywhere. The guide does not know English very well. On this trip, you need to give more time to inspect especially on the Glacier and on the beaches near the village of Vik.
