What people are saying about Radcliffe Camera
This is a long day and while you can spend a whole day (or two!) at either Oxford or Harry Potter studios, there is enough time on this trip to enjoy both (being somewhat mindful of the time). We had a great tour guide in Oxford, local man who I believe studied/studies there; he gave recommendations & local flavor. Had enough time for lunch at Turf Tavern and some quick shopping. Harry Potter studio is massive and one can easily schedule a whole day for it. We had about 4 hours. I'm a massive fan and was accompanied by a casual one. We ideally would have liked about 30-45 minutes longer to not feel at all rushed but again, still plenty of time to wait in line for pictures on a broomstick, Hogwarts Express, etc if everything else is kept at a decent pace. Unfortunately, the bus does not have outlets, wifi or a bathroom. However, the driver does stop at the facilities en route. Overall, I rate this a 9/10 (slightly longer at Harry Potter maybe, upgraded bus) but would recommend!
I've visited Oxford many times under my own steam, but never taken a guided tour. I'm now converted. The two hour tour took us to familiar sites, but with the added advantage of a knowledgable guide - in our case, Trevor, a former student of the university (and originally from Canada) - who clearly loved the city he was showing us. We saw many interesting sites, heard many amazing facts and gained access to places I'd never been before. I'd thoroughly recommend this tour. And would go back again to try other tours too.
I had no particular expectations of the tour. However when I turned up 35 minutes early I was greeted ny two very welcoming m e mbers of staff who assured me that my guide was going to ne the best ever. In addition, They were ha ppy to recommend the best cafe in the vicinity in which to spend my 25 minutes. The guide was an approachable and enthusiastic person who was able to present dry historical facts with verve and humour .
Who would have expected - a newly minted Oxford PhD from Canada to give an excellent introduction to a one of Britain’s major historical educational institutions. Instructive and entertaining at the same time. Respectful of the history but also see the inherent silliness of some aspect of any institution. Maybe the outsider/North American prospective is a plus?
A very good tour in a small group covering most of the university on a very hot August bank holiday weekend. Our Guide (Marie) was very knowledgeable and pleasant. We paid extra for entrance into Balliol and Divinity school but could have done with a bit extra time to explore.
