Full description
Head out to sea on a morning whale watching excursion. Listen to a short safety briefing and the rules of observation before the boat sets sail, as well as some historical information. Cruise along the coast and look out for the more than 25 cetacean species that can be found in the Azores. Whales and dolphins are regularly seen during this half-day trip, along with turtles, seabirds and other marine life.

Once you're back on dry land, a picnic lunch will be served. After lunch, head away from Ponta Delgada  towards the most western part of the island, where the mountains and lagoon of the Sete Cidades are located. Stop at the Vista do Rei viewpoint to see one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the island, over the famous lagoon inside a volcanic crater.

Visit the village of the Sete Cidades for an authentic portrait of rural Micaelense life. Drive along the northern rim of this gigantic crater in an off-road vehicle along a fantastic, winding path. Enjoy the outstanding view of the island's largest lake, known for its contrasting colors. Return to Ponta Delgada, stopping off at a pineapple plantation to learn about the peculiar way this fruit is grown in the Azores.
