What people are saying about Ostia Antica

Clear recommendation and real insider tip!

Clear recommendation and real insider tip! The guided tour through Ostia Antica with the archaeologist Maria Rita was a highlight of my trip to Rome. Perfectly prepared and organized by here. One invests half a day and understands so much more about the connections by the example of this phantasticly preserved Roman settlement and receives a living picture of this epoch. Even with children very well suitable, because Maria Rita adapts wonderfully didactically to her guests and includes even child interests. She tells with heart and soul and great knowledge. Ostia is so easy to reach (only 35 minutes from Stazioni Porto San Paolo, not far from Colosseo, with a normal city ticket for 1.50!) There is a very nice café in the mids of the parc with delicious food where you can relax wonderfully. Getting off the train you can already smell the pine trees and the sea air. Ostia Antica is a place of peace. No pushing and shoving. A relaxing little escape from the hectic rome.

Super organized, easy to get to and a fabulous guide!!

It was super easy to meet the guide at the starting point. Fun train out of the city to Ostia. We had Rebecca as our guide and she clearly loves her job and was filled with information on the site and on Rome. She very quickly knew our names and included us in the conversations. She was great at pulling everyone in to the stories and had photos to show so that we could see in our minds how things probably looked. Its an incredible place, so close to Rome. We were so glad we decided to do this last extra tour. We ended up stopping along the way back with direction from Rebecca on how to see St Pauls, which was SO worth the stop. OMG another amazing church. Rebecca made sure she came around to everyone before getting off the train and asking if she could give any more info or suggestions for places to see or places to eat. Super great guide!!!

Amanda K was outstanding. Deep knowledge, passion and communication++

Amanda gave as such detailed and vivid descriptions that the intricacies of the site came alive in our understanding of how a Roman town worked and how the people of various classes lived. I would recommend this tour for everyone interested in Rome beyond the Imperial splendor. Amanda also went out of her way to accommodate needs of participants and solve problems that arose because of disruptions to the city because of a major event. an outstanding site and tour made so by an outstanding guide.

The trip to Ostia Antica was the highlight of our holiday.

We had looked forward to visiting Ostia Antica having seen it featured on a TV documentary, and having visited Pompeii, but it exceeded our expectations due to it's quietness and no bustling crowds. The main reason for our enjoyment was Roberto, our guide, who was absolutely brilliant from beginning to end. He really brought the whole experience to life and I'm sure the others in the group (only 13, also a bonus ) must have felt the same.

Fab tour! Fascinating venue & great guide.

So much more to Istia Antica than I’d known. It’s about the same size as Pompei. It was an ancient port, a town and with lots of baths and cultural variety. Definitely worth a visit. Our guide Laura, was interesting, approachable and very knowledgeable, with fluent English. She ran the logistics of the tour like clockwork. We definitely recommend this tour. Good for kids too.
