Best things to do in Melbourne

The sights of Melbourne may not be as famous as rival Sydney's, but the charm of the world's "most livable city" nevertheless draws tourists from far and wide. Melburnians know how to have a good time, and so will you if you know what to see and do!

Planning Your Visit

  • When to go?

The best time to visit Melbourne is during fall (March to May). Not only is the weather at its most tolerable, but the changing colors of the city's foliage lend an air of charm to its Victorian-era buildings. If you can, try to catch the annual Food and Wine Festival during the first half of March!

  • How many days?

If the purpose of your visit is simply to see Melbourne's sights then you will need at least 2 or 3 days. That said, Melbourne has a multitude of festivals happening year round so consider staying for a bit longer if any of them take your fancy!

Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs was the highlight of my Melbourne getaway. The hill top pool was the best but I enjoyed every other pool and sauna I was able to try. I have to say special thanks to Polly and Matt from Explore Australia for making my day. If it was them, this tour wouldn't have happened. Getyourguide let me book this tour for 26 April (Monday) and kept me in that belief that everything was alright. I even talked to them 2 days prior to the schedule departure about the possibility of cancellation (due to covid, many tours are not going ahead). They said everything was as planned, no problem. I haven't got any confirmation from the tour company though, so by Monday morning I was really nervous and worried about missing the tour. Called Explore Australia and they said they didn't have a booking for that day!! Thank God I had one more day in Melb, so Polly from the office reschedule my tour, can't be greatful enough for her. And Matt, the tour guide, he's just awesome.

We started the tour learning about the very interesting history of Melbourne and how it came to be. Then proceeded to walk many of the little laneways, observing and exploring secret corners, beautiful art deco buildings, and hidden away boutique shops. It was great to discover so much of Melbourne that we didn't know.

Explore Australia staff were very responsive and proactive in making sure my booking was good to go. The Hot Springs were busy but overall relaxing. I was able to get a space when I wanted one.

The service is great and the experience is not too bad. Food and drinks are average. We were not that impressed

our tour guide San was excellent. lots of knowledge and kept it interesting and moving. great day
