Top 7 things to see in Leipzig
One of the new centers for art and culture in Germany, and a stone's throw from Berlin, Leipzig is a city in its prime and a new tourist hot spot. But people also come for its history. Here's a few sites worth seeing.

Monument to the Battle of the Nations
The historic Monument to the Battle of the Nations commemorates Napoleon's defeat at Leipzig. It's also a fantastic spot for tourists as there is a viewing platform from which you can see across the city.

University of Leipzig
One of the oldest universities in the world, with an incredible history, a tour of the campus of the University of Leipzig is well worth it.

Gewandhaus
Home of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, you won't forget the wonderful acoustics of this concert hall any time soon.

St. Thomas Church, Leipzig
The famous St. Thomas Church was where Johann Sebastian Bach worked as a Kapellmeister, and is the current location of his remains.

St. Nicholas Church, Leipzig
The most famous church in Leipzig, as peaceful demonstrations used to take place here every Monday as a protest against communist rule.

Old City Hall
This fabulous Renaissance building was once the hub of life in Leipzig. Now it contains a great museum dedicated to the history of the city.

Grassi Museum
Three wonderful museums rolled into one, with an especially good museum of musical instruments. This is one tourist site not to be missed!
Planning Your Leipzig Visit
When to visit Leipzig?
Although you can visit all year round and still see the sights, the weather in the summer months is great, making it a perfect holiday destination to get some sun and culture!
How many nights?
With plenty to see and do, three night would be the perfect amount of time to get to know the city. Or, why not combine it with a trip to Berlin and stay a night or two in each city?

What people are saying about Leipzig
The trip did what I hoped: gave me an oveview of the city.
It was fine once it started. Being winter, the number of departures was reduced and I waited for it to start longer than my patience lasted. But I suppose that's inevitable as they can't afford buses going round empty. They need to install the recordings in other languages soon. My German wasn't really good enough to get the best from the commentary.
Informative tour, but please note the tour is in German!
Though it is noted in the tour description, it was not immediately clear to me that the tour would be conducted in German only. This was okay for me but my partner speaks only a little German. Apart from this the tour was very comprehensive and gave a good overview of the main sites and informed us about the history of Leipzig.
Loved the personalised tour and learnt so much around the centre. Loved all the history of the various buildings. A fantastic tour and didn't expect all this history in Lepzig!!
Omar welcomed us on time for a two hour walking tout through the central part of Leipzig. We much enjoyed this short tour as well as Omar’s explanations and his friendliness.
We walked more than half the Leipzig Music Trail with Trudy, who was pleasant and knowledgeable, and clearly loves her city and the music in it. A very enjoyable morning!
