What people are saying about Kollwitzplatz
The bus part of the tour is quite good as you can just ride it for 3 days and watch Berlin. I loved the recorded audio, except that I don't think the Berlin Tower is the tallest structure in Europe anymore, its the Shard in London. Plus one of the embassies are flipped. It should say the Turkish embassy then the South African embassy. I got a chance to see parts of Berlin I had not seen before so this worked out well; the staff is polite and the buses show just about every ten minutes. Watch for traffic diversions as you will miss parts of the tour. But if you do, just hop on and off again. You can use it as your transportation around Berlin :-). The Spree river cruise was not running for a week, but I did not find out until I got off walked around looked for it, and did not find it. However, I was offered any other tour I wanted, so I picked the asisi promenade which is at Checkpoint Charlie. This museum is worth visiting as well. So I have to come back and do the river cruise
The bust tour was fine but you need more that 2 days if you want to spend a reasonable time at the sites because the bus only runs between 1000 and 1800. The music on the bus commentary translators is dire and needs to be changed. The Reichstag tour is a must and was the highlight of the visit to Berlin. We also enjoyed the Brandenburg Gate, Cathedral and Checkpoint Charlie. The city is huge and you need the public transport. We used trams and underground and all were easy to use. Plenty of places to eat and a large variety of international foods. We stayed at Hotel Abba Berlin which was reasonably central and was clean and comfortable. There is more to see in Berlin than is apparent from travel brochures.
The bus trip is good - it includes all the places you would want and they come frequently, so it is easy to get on and off. They only go in one direction, so you have to plan your departures carefully as 2 hours is a long time to spend re-doing teh circuit (the underground system is easy to use though) The earplugs are awful. The zoo is small in terms of area and large in terms of variety. Most of the spaces for the animals are good, although the primates and big cats were in smaller spaces than one would hope. In the winter, it was empty of people and peaceful, but the animals were also less inclined to be out an about.
The boat trip covers everything you could want to see in a short visit to Berlin; the recorded guide is clear and informative (in over 12 languages!) and the buses comfortable. THe boat trip was shorter than we expected and the commentary not up to the standard set by the bus tour - not enough information on the English Language version, and the headset didn't work very well. The hop-on/off nature of the bus tour is excellent, with the stops well-placed, Drivers and office staff were friendly and helpful. Overall I'd recommend this tour, though maybe we'd take a different boat trip.
The reason why I picked this Tour was due to the locations available in the package. It was really nice to see both historic and modern sides of Berlin. The must see attractions and Berliner hot-spots were also included. The tour really surpassed my expectations where it allowed reasonable time for passengers to hop on and off the bus without too much stress. Also the fact that every 15 minutes a Bus is available is very inviting where I could go out at certain destination with plenty of time to explore the area. I really recommend this to others!
