Top 10 Things to do on Kauai

For an off-the-beaten-path Hawai’i experience, Kauai offers you a less “touristy” vacation. Whether you dream of relaxing on the beach or floating down tunnels on old sugar plantations, choose your adventure and let the memories begin.

Nā Pali Coast

Nā Pali Coast

One of Hawaii’s most iconic coastlines, the Napali Coast is only accessible by air or sea. Take a scenic flight tour and see the lush green coast and bright turquoise waters from a bird’s eye view, or cruise out across the ocean on an exciting snorkel tour.

Waimea Canyon State Park

Waimea Canyon State Park

Dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” by Mark Twain, this national monument is about 10 miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep. Don’t miss out on hiking through the captivating bright orange and red canyons.

Poipu Beach Park

Catch some rays at sunny Poipu Beach Park, dubbed the “sunny south side.” You can do it all at this location; whether you’d like to lay out on white sand beaches or swim along the turquoise coastline. This beach is considered among the safest in Hawaii, with a lifeguard on duty.

Hanalei Bay

Located on Kauai’s north shore, this is the largest bay on the island. This bay has gorgeous stretches of soft sand beach, surrounded by lush mountains. In the summer, the bay is the perfect place to snorkel, stand up paddle, and swim.

Wailua Falls

Just north of the little town of Lihue, Wailua Falls is located at the south end of the Wailua River. Feel the cooling mist of 73-foot waterfalls that are easily accessible just off the beaten path. The dramatic views are best experienced by foot or from the air.

Queen’s Bath

Explore the secret natural pools carved into the lava shelf on the north side of Kauai. This scenic hike is recommended for experienced hikers, so tread carefully on your journey. Surround yourself with sea life and tucked-away views at this historical site, once used as a place of relaxation for Hawaiian royalty.

Fern Grotto

Once only accessible to Hawaiian royalty, the Fern Grotto can be reached by a river tour up the Wailua River. The grotto is an all natural lava-rock, lush with hanging ferns and tropical foliage, draped by the mists of a waterfall. Keep an eye out for locations where movies like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones were filmed.

Kilauea Lighthouse

This Wildlife Refuge is located at the northernmost tip of Kauai, and served as a beacon for ships in the 1970s. The ocean cliffs and grassy slopes near a dormant volcano protect a breeding area for many Hawaiian seabirds. The Kilauea Lighthouse is open Tuesday to Saturday, but closed on Sunday and Monday. Be sure to bring cash to pay the admission fees.

Mountain tubing in Kauai

Enjoy a float through some of the most remote parts of the Garden Island as you tube through man-made canals, caves, and jungle waterways. This waterway was dug out by hand in the 1800s and is great for kids and adults of all ages.

Authentic Hawaiian luau

A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast that is accompanied by hula and fire dancing. Get immersed in Hawaiian culture and learn the story of Polynesia at a luau, perfect for honeymooners and families.

What people are saying about Kauai

Maverick provided exceptional service and a fantastic trip!

Our original flight was limited due to visibility. Chris at Maverick called us in advance and gave us the opportunity to do half our trip or delay to the next day. The sun gods were with us and we got to fly the entire route which we highly recommend. Our pilot, Adam Chase, was great. While watching out for the numerous other helicopters, provided us with a wonder narrative and humor. As my first helicopter flight, it was an awesome experience. Safety was a priority from the quality of the helicopter to personal safety. Thanks for the memories!

The best way to see the Na Pali Coast and top spots in Kauai!

We flew along the Na Pali coast and saw amazing views of the gorgeous cliffs and ridges. Then we headed up north and cruised along the North Shore and saw the Kileaua Lighthouse and all the sandy beaches around it. I really loved the end of our flight where we got a great shot of Wailua Falls. Makoa, our tour guide and pilot, was awesome!!! He did a great show sharing with us the history of each site we flew over. He was also born and raised on the islands, so he showed us where he learned to surf as a kid, and spear fish! So cool!!!

Do Mi made the tour an experience I will never forget!

The tour was the complete opposite of what I thought it would be. I came away with wonderful images of Hawaiian history from the point of view of one whose family lived it, as well as incredible views of this beautiful island. I will remember with joy the whole day and Do Mi's running commentary! Thank you for such a terrific day!
